Cross Country to Send Spartans to Phoenix and Panorama Farms Invitationals
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's cross country team will compete on Friday in the Phoenix Invitational in Elon, North Carolina, while the men's squad will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia, to run in the Panorama Farms Invitational on Saturday.
The women will run a six-kilometer course at 10:00 a.m. on the Elon Cross Country Course. The men will compete in the eight-kilometer race at 8:45 a.m. at Panorama Farms.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE WOMEN
- The women placed 17th out of 20 teams with 442 points in their first six-kilometer run of the season at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational, hosted by East Carolina University at Overton Lake Kristi's on Oct. 4.
- Sosa led the way for the Spartans, finishing in 20th place out of 202 competitors. She clocked in a time of 22:23.9.
- Lillian (120th place) and Tenley (121st place) followed each other in the finish. Lillian ran the race in 24:01.9 and Tenley crossed the finish in 24:02.2.
- Carlson finished in 123rd place with a time of 24:03.7.
ABOUT THE WOMEN
- The Spartan women tallied 39 points and were voted to finish sixth in The 2024 Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Poll.
- The women concluded the 2023 cross country season competing at the 2023 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships.
- They finished 30th out of 34 teams totaling 834 points. Jenna Reiter, who graduated, competed in her third NCAA Regional and finished in 125th place, while Sosa was the second Spartan to cross the finish line taking home 143rd place.
- The Spartans posted third place as a team twice last season, once at their opening Queen City Invite and then again at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational.
- The women return eight from last year's roster and added four freshmen.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE MEN
- The men placed ninth out of 17 teams at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational with 248 points.
- Two Spartans finished in the top 50 of 176 total finishers.
- Keck led the way for the Blue & Gold, taking home 41st place overall with a time of 24:59.3.
- He earned SoCon Male Runner of the Week honor with his finish. This was the first time in his collegiate career that he broke 25 minutes in the eight-kilometer race.
- Abdullahi was close behind with his 45th-place finish and time of 25:00.7.
- Long crossed the finish line third for the Spartans, earning 52nd place with a time of 25:06.2.
ABOUT THE MEN
- The men totaled 39 points and tied with Western Carolina for sixth place in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Poll.
- Ward was the only Spartan that competed at the 2023 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships. Ward placed 127th overall, besting his mark from the previous year.
- The men's squad saw their best mark at the Queen City Invite last year, placing second overall.
- They later took home eighth at the Upstate Invitational and then seventh at the SoCon Championships.
- Long led the way for the Spartans at the SoCon Championships earning All-Conference second team honors and finishing ninth overall and Ward placed 25th overall.
- The men return 14 from last year's roster and have added five newcomers.

UNCG will prepare for the 2024 SoCon Championships which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, hosted by Furman at Furman Golf Course. The women's five-kilometer race will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the men's eight-kilometer race will follow at 10:45 a.m.
