Women’s Golf Sets Tournament Round Record, Jumps to Third on Day Two of Golfweek Fall Challenge
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team broke the single-round tournament record for the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, by shooting a 13-under-par (271) to jump up to third on Monday.
The Spartans' impressive showing on Monday in South Carolina also set a single-round team record. It bested the previous mark of 281 that the women's team accomplished during the second round of last year's Elon Women's Invitational.
Freshman Sophie Lauture led the way for the Spartans, shooting a six-under-par (65) on Monday to move into a tie for first individually at six-under-par (136).
TEAM
- UNCG went from tied for ninth on Sunday after shooting a 13-over-par (297) to alone at third with Monday's 13-under-par (271) team effort.
- Now even in the tournament, the Spartans now find themselves one stroke shy of Campbell for second and four behind UNC Wilmington for a share of the top spot.
- UNCG leads the tournament at four-under-par when it comes to competing on par-3 holes. Senior Grace Holcomb is leading the way with three strokes shaved on par 3s.
- The Spartans have totaled the second-most birdies so far in the tournament with 31. Sophomore Elle Burnette and Lauture are tied for fifth individually with eight birdies.
INDIVIDUAL
- Competing in her first tournament as a Spartan, Lauture is now tied for first in terms of individual play after finishing six-under-par (65) in the second round to move to six-under-par (136) for the tournament. She has 26 pars and eight birdies.
- Burnette also shined on Monday, shooting four-under-par (67) to move into a tie for 10th at one-under-par (141). She has 21 pars and eight birdies.
- Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine also dropped her score and finished under par in her second round, shooting a 69 to move into a tie for 38th at five-over-par (147) with senior Ava Romfo, who shot one-under-par (70) in round two.
- Holcomb finished tied for 44th on Monday after posting a 73 to stand at six-over-par (148).
