Six Spartans Run Personal Bests at JDL Early Bird Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track teams competed in the JDL Early Bird Invitational for their second meet of the season on Sunday.
Six Spartans clocked in personal best times, including four on the men's side and two on the women's side.
Sophomore Samuel Barnard ran a personal best time of 2:32.17 in the 1000-meter run which earned him first place out of eight competitors. According to UNCG records, Barnard's time is now second-best in program history behind Terry Wyatt's time of 2:30.93 in 2010.
Freshman Brodie Schneider took home second place in the 1000-meter run with his time of 2:32.28, which is now third in UNCG history. Senior Glodi Mvovi rounded out the Spartan's marks in the 1000-meter event, taking home third place with his personal best time of 2:39.11.
In the men's 400-meter run, sophomore Khalid Abdullahi won his heat and placed 11th overall out of 40 competitors with a time of 54.09.
Junior Evan Pena paced the Spartans in the mile with a personal best time of 4:24.68 and finished fourth out of 39 competitors.
Seniors Andrew Hamilton and Mason Rudel placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 3000-meter run. Hamilton ran a time of 8:47.22 while Rudel won his heat with a personal best time of 9:02.15.
On the women's side, all five Spartans that ran in the 3000-meter event finished in the top 10 out of 20 competitors. Senior Camille Carlson finished third overall with her time of 10:58.74. Sophomore Tenley Douglass followed in fourth place with a time of 11:00.12. Senior Emma Berrier finished sixth with her personal best time of 11:09.82, freshman Lillian Douglass placed eighth (11:18.80) and senior Bella Manfre rounded out the performances taking 10th place (11:47.43).
Sophomore Peyton Wilson also clocked in a personal best time. She ran a time of 28.28 in the 200-meter sprint taking home 15th place out of 24 competitors.
Up next
UNCG will take some time off before returning to the track in January. The Spartans will compete in The Burg Open on Friday, Jan. 10 in Lynchburg, Virginia, at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
