Baseball Lands Sixth Seed for 2025 SoCon Tournament
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will head into the 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament as the No. 6 seed, facing the No. 7 seed Wofford in its first game on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina.
All eight SoCon teams will participate in the tournament, with seeds five and eight participating in a single-elimination game on Wednesday, May 21, at 3 p.m., and seeds six and seven playing in another single-elimination game later that night at 7 p.m. Both games will be for the right to advance to the double-elimination portion of the bracket. The championship game will take place Sunday, May 25, at noon, with a second game, if necessary, beginning 40 minutes after the completion of the first contest.
UNCG (21-31, 9-11 SoCon) finished the regular season as the No. 6 seed after dropping two out of three games in a series against Western Carolina this weekend. The Spartans will be competing for their fourth SoCon Tournament title after previously winning in 1998, 2018 and 2022.
The top two seeds, No. 1 ETSU and No. 2 Samford, get a double bye and will not compete until Friday. The third and fourth seeds, The Citadel and Mercer, get one bye and will not compete until Thursday.
The Spartans swept Wofford while hosting the three-game regular season series at UNCG Baseball Stadium from April 12-13. UNCG won both games of a doubleheader on April 12, 9-2 and then 11-1 in seven innings, before sweeping the series with a 4-1 victory on April 13.
