Romfo Wins Individual Title, Women’s Golf Places Second at UNCG Collegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished second on Tuesday while hosting the UNCG Collegiate at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished second on Tuesday while hosting the UNCG Collegiate at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Senior Ava Romfo was the champion of the tournament at 10-under-par (206). What was a career-best score for single tournament netted her a second collegiate title on Tuesday after she previously won the Puerto Rico Classic last spring.

TEAM

  • The Spartans finished nine-under-par (851) for second place, four strokes shy of High Point for the top spot.
  • UNCG concluded play 33 strokes ahead of the third-place team, Longwood.
  • The Spartans posted rounds of 282-288-285.
  • As a team, the Spartans totaled 48 birdies and 171 pars for second in both categories during the three-round tournament.

INDIVIDUAL

  • Romfo shot a four-under-par (68) in the final round to move from second to first in the final round. She carded rounds of 68-70-68 and led the tournament with 16 birdies.
  • Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine finished third on the player leaderboard with rounds of 71-68-74 to score three-under-par (213). She led all student-athletes with 39 pars.
  • Senior Grace Holcomb and sophomore Elle Burnette tied for third on the Spartans and 14th overall at five-over-par (221). Holcomb posted a 72-75-74 while Burnette put up 71-75-75. Holcomb tied for sixth with 11 birdies while Burnette tied for third with 37 pars.
  • Competing as an individual, junior Julia Baeumken carded the best round of the tournament when she scored a 64 in the second round on Monday afternoon. She finished with rounds of 80-64-79 to tie for 18th at seven-over-par (223). Baeumken tied for sixth overall with 11 birdies
  • Freshman Sophie Lauture tied for 20th at nine-over-par (225).
  • Freshman Lulu Leetham ended right behind Lauture to tie for 22nd at 10-over-par (226).
  • Senior Gabriela Cruz placed 45th at 23-over-par (239).

UP NEXT
The UNCG Collegiate marked the conclusion of the Spartans' fall slate. They will begin the spring season hosting the Advance Golf Partner Collegiate from Feb. 9-11 in West Palm, Florida.
