April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and as part of our ongoing effort to support survivors, the SAAM Committee and Campus Violence Response Center invites you to join us as we Take Back the Night! From Take Back the Night: "TBTN is the oldest worldwide movement to stand against sexual violence in all forms. TBTN began in the 1970s with a Tribunal Council meeting in Belgium attended by 2000+ women representing 40+ countries. Our earliest activists protested the lack of safety for women, whether walking down the street alone at night. In 1973, in the United States, a group of women at the University of Southern Florida dressed in black sheets, held broomsticks, and marched through campus demanding a women’s center. In 1975, a large crowd in Philadelphia staged a Take Back The Night Event to protest the murder of a microbiologist walking home after work. In the 70s, San Francisco had a number of rallies in protest of “snuff” pornography and violence against women. These early protests sparked thousands of events on college campuses and in global communities of all sizes — from remote Canadian towns to bustling Calcutta streets, from Ivy Leagues to military bases. Each working to end sexual violence and support victims. We continue to increase our impact and add more communities, and TBTN now reaches millions of people each year!" Our event will open with a vigil honoring survivor healing stories, poetry reading, and supportive office review. We will then march across campus to protest sexual violence, and return to the vigil location for additional supportive conversations and resources. 📅 Date: 4/16/2026

Every semester, the Peabody Park Preservation Committee needs volunteers to help restore the native habitat of the Peabody Park woods on campus. We need your help removing invasive species like English Ivy and Bush Honeysuckle. We also need help collecting litter from the creek on the Northwest corner of campus. We can’t have too many people! There will be work for everyone! We can confirm service hours on GivePulse. This event is only open to UNCG staff, faculty, students, and alumni. Meet us at noon, under the pedestrian bridge in the park, near the Music Building. The mission of the Preservation Committee is to 1) preserve and maintain Peabody Park Woods as a natural mixed hardwood forest characterized by species native to the piedmont of North Carolina, 2) re-establish and maintain the fire-adapted Piedmont Prairie community of rare native wildflowers, grasses, and fauna dependent upon them, 3) educate the UNCG community about species conservation, and 4) oversee our annual re-certification of the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus Higher Education program.
