Baseball Falls 4-0 at Elon

ELON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team was handed a 4-0 loss on the road against the Elon Phoenix in a non-conference test on Tuesday night at Latham Park.

ELON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team was handed a 4-0 loss on the road against the Elon Phoenix in a non-conference test on Tuesday night at Latham Park.

The Phoenix got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when Justin Szestowicki grounded out to UNCG's pitcher, Hunter Shuey, allowing Alex Duffey to dash home from third and score for a 1-0 lead after two stanzas.
 
Elon tacked on a second run in the third inning when Charlie Granatell led off the inning with a triple and then scored with two outs on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Phoenix.

The Phoenix made it 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth frame when Duffey flew out deep enough to left for Joe Yovino to score from third on a sacrifice fly.

Elon scored its final run of the evening in the seventh inning when Granatell scored on another wild pitch to extend the lead to 4-0..

The Spartans mounted a ninth-inning rally when Tyler Steele reached base by legging out a single. However, that was all UNCG could manage as Elon shutout the Spartans, 4-0.

The Spartans will head to Spartanburg, South Carolina, next to take on the USC Upstate Spartans from Thursday to Saturday at Harley Park. First pitches for the series are slated for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday before starting at 2:00 p.m. in Saturday's finale.
