Murchison’s Complete Game Shutout Lands SoCon Pitcher of the Week Honor
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball's senior right-handed pitcher Sam Murchison has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The Siler City, North Carolina, native pitched a complete game shutout en route to the Spartans winning 1-0 over Western Carolina on Friday night. He also made a relief appearance in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 8-4 victory over Longwood at UNCG Baseball Stadium, where he struck out two in a perfect inning. In total, Murchison threw 10 innings of shutout baseball with just three hits and four walks surrendered while striking out nine along the way.
"It was really special to have one of the best outings of my career on both Senior Day and the last time I'll ever pitch at home for UNCG," said Murchison. "I'm glad we were able to come away with the win not just for me, but all of our seniors. It's definitely something that I will remember for the rest of my life."
The weekly award marks UNCG baseball's third of the season. Freshman Jake Colucci and junior Jay Miller were also named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week on May 5 and Feb. 17, respectively.
