Saizonou Tallies Double-Double in 70-57 Victory to The Citadel
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team extended its home win streak to seven behind a 70-57 victory over The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe The Citadel on Wednesday night at First Horizon Coliseum.
This was the fifth game this season where at least four Spartans scored double figures. Donovan Atwell paced the Spartans with 19 points. Joryam Saizonou tallied a career-high 16 points and 10 assists for his first-career double-double. This was the first game that a Spartan tallied 10 or more dimes in a game since Kobe Langley registered 11 assists on Jan. 13, 2024, at Chattanooga. Langley had three games last season with 10 or more assists in a game.
Demetrius Davis chipped in 14 points, while Malik Henry had 12 points.
UNCG is now 39-10 against The Citadel in the overall series and the Spartans have claimed the last six meetings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back. The Citadel registered its first point of the game at 14:43 on a free throw for a nine-point gap, 10-1. The free throw began a 13-6 run for the Bulldogs and was ended with a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to three, 16-13, with 8:56 left in the first half. The Spartans quickly responded with back-to-back three pointers to climb back to a nine-point advantage, 22-13. With 4:04 on the clock, Davis pick-pocketed a Bulldog and finished with a dunk which gave UNCG its first double-digit lead of the game, an eleven-point advantage, 30-19. The Bulldogs concluded the first half with a 10-4 run that closed the gap to five, 34-29, before the buzzer.
The Spartans' tallied seven of their 12 total three pointers during the second half of the game, which included Saizonou's shot from behind the arc at 19:39. UNCG then went on a 16-7 run which gave the squad a 17-point advantage at 12:08, 53-36, its largest lead of the game. Following Mason So's three pointer at 10:52, the Bulldogs kept the Spartans from scoring for over seven minutes closing the gap to eight, 59-51. UNCG maintained its lead and climbed back to a double-digit lead with six straight free throws to hold on for the 13-point win, 70-57.

- Davis paced the game and matched his season-high of nine rebounds. All nine were defensive boards.
- Henry matched his season high of seven boards.
- The Bulldogs had the advantage in points in the paint (24-16), points off turnovers (11-7), bench points (19-9) and fast break points (4-2).
- UNCG led in second chance points (9-5).
- The Spartans led in field goal percentage (43.8-41.2), three-point percentage (46.2-33.3) and free throw percentage (84.2-53.3).
