Men’s Basketball Soars Past N.C. Wesleyan, 99-54
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team dominated the court and secured a 99-54 victory over Division III foe N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Fleming Gymnasium. This was an exhibition for the Bishops.
Four Spartans scored double figures, including Akrum Ahemed who paced the game with 16 points. Donovan Atwell chipped in 15 points, while Kenyon Giles had 11 points and Miles Jones registered 10 points. Jones tallied 10 rebounds, as well, for his first-career double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans kicked off the game with nine-straight points and never looked back. With 15:36 on the clock, Jones drained the team's third three-pointer and gave UNCG its first double-digit advantage, 16-6. A 7-2 run by the Bishops closed the gap to five, 18-13, but the Spartans continued their momentum with three-straight three-pointers to get back to a double-figure lead, 27-13. UNCG went to the locker room with a 25-point advantage, 49-24, it's largest halftime lead of the season.
With 16:55 on the clock in the second half, UNCG saw its first 30-point lead of the season on Jalen Breath's layup, 58-38. The Spartans utilized their 58.06-percent field goal shooting in the second half to climb to a 45-point advantage three times. One of the three times included the final basket for UNCG which was a free throw by Domas Kauzonas, securing a 99-54 victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Spartans shot .581 (36-for-62) from field goal range and .545 (12-for-22) from behind-the-arc for their best percentages this season.
- UNCG's 50 rebounds is the most since Dec. 21, 2023, when the Spartans recorded 68 boards against Virginia University of Lynchburg.
- Jalen Breath scored nine points and nine rebounds.
- Giles, Ronald Polite III and Kauzonas each recorded two steals.
- Giles added a season-best four assists.
- Giles and Ahemed went a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range, while Ahemed also went 5-for-5 from field goal range.
- UNCG outmatched the Bishops in field goal percentage (58.1-25.9), three-point percentage (54.5-28.6) and free throw percentage (65.2-60.6).
- The Spartans also had the advantage in points in the paint (44-18), points off turnovers (20-7), fast break points (19-6) and bench points (45-21).

The Spartans will hit the road for four-straight games, beginning with Big Ten foe Indiana on Thursday, Nov. 21 in Bloomington, Indiana, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall with a 6:30 p.m. start.
