Men’s Basketball Drops Close Fight at No. 16 Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team put up a fight against No. 16 Indiana on Thursday night in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, but the Hoosiers came out on top, 69-58.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Indiana got out to a quick 7-0 lead before Kenyon Giles made the Spartans' first basket of the game. The Hoosiers saw their first double-digit lead at 15:07, 14-3. Indiana extended its advantage to 16, 21-5, but UNCG responded with nine-straight points. This contributed to a 15-5 run which closed the gap to six, 26-20, with 4:03 remaining in the half. The Hoosiers went into the locker room with a nine-point lead, 36-27.
 
The Spartans came out of the break with an 8-3 run, cutting the deficit to four, 39-35. With 15:57 on the clock, Malik Henry completed an and-one play that tied the game at 40. The Hoosiers then went on a 12-2 run to put them up 54-42 with 10:52 remaining in the second half. The score toggled back and forth in the remaining minutes and Indiana came out with an 11-point win, 69-58.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Ronald Polite III led the Spartans with 17 points and had three assists.
  • Donovan Atwell tallied 10 points.
  • Jalen Breath paced UNCG with nine rebounds.
  • Joryam Saizonou chipped in eight points.
  • Giles had seven points, five rebounds and two steals.
  • Miles Jones and Henry each had two blocks.
  • Indiana held the slight edge in points in the paint, 24-22, points off turnovers, 17-16, fast break points, 7-6, and bench points, 19-18.
  • UNCG had the advantage over Indiana in three-point percentage, 28.1-26.3.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will continue a four-game road trip to compete in the 2024 Ball Dawgs Classic in Henderson, Nevada, at Lee's Family Forum from Nov. 25-27. UNCG will open the classic with Long Beach State with a start time of 11:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. PT. They will face San Jose State (11:00 PM ET | 8:00 PM PT) the following day and conclude the classic with UTEP (7:30 PM ET | 4:30 PM PT) on Wednesday.

UNCG will return home to host Triad foe, High Point on Tuesday, Dec. 3 in Fleming Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. This will be the Spartans' White Out Game, wear white!
