SoCon Announces Men's Golfers of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jake Lewis of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.

The freshman's second SoCon Player of the Week recognition comes after finishing tied for 10th place at the three-round Maridoe Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday in Carrollton, Texas, at Maridoe Golf Course.

Lewis carded rounds of 75-74-71 for an overall score of four-over-par (220) in the two-day event.

"I am thrilled to be named SoCon Golfer of the Week again," said Lewis. "Heading into the end of the spring season, these results give me and the rest of our team momentum to finish strong in our last two events."

The last time a UNCG freshman earned SoCon Golfer of the Week twice in a single season was back in 2017 when Jonathan Brightwell earned the feat two consecutive weeks.

Wednesday's recognition marks the fifth SoCon Golfer of the Week mention for the team this season. Lewis was also named SoCon Golfer of the Week on March 19, 2024. Jack Marcotte and Colin Dutton received SoCon Co-Golfers of the Week honors on Feb. 26, 2025, while Kelvin Hernandez earned the honor back on Sept. 11, 2024, after winning the Bryan National Collegiate.

This is the first time in UNCG program history that the team has earned five SoCon Golfer of the Week recognitions in a single season. The previous record was four in a season which was achieved in both 2021-22 and 2019-20.

UNCG continues to lead the SoCon in Men's Golfer of the Week honors with 41 in program history.
