Lachekar Earns SoCon Defensive Player of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Senior defender Sami Lachekar of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Denfensive Player of the Week after scoring one goal and playing two complete games in the second week of the 2025 season, the league announced Tuesday.
The Rennes, France native, netted his first goal of the season against the University of Southern Florida and played all 90 minutes which proved to be crucial as the Spartans drew the Bulls 1-1. Against the University of Central Florida, he again got the start and played all 90 minutes of action for the eventual 2-1 win.
In four games played this season, Lachekar has logged 360 minutes of action and started in all four games for the Spartans this season. This is his first SoCon Player of the Week award of his career.

The UNCG men's soccer team will return home Saturday with a potential Top 25 matchup, in Dayton, who is currently ranked No. 25. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium. As a part of Rawkin' Welcome Week Event, the game will be a Fusion Night (FREE popcorn refill for kids that wear jersey) and a food truck will be in attendance.
