Men’s Soccer to Begin 2025 Campaign Hosting Radford & VCU

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team will begin its 2025 regular season campaign by hosting Radford on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and VCU on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team will begin its 2025 regular season campaign by hosting Radford on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and VCU on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY VS RADFORD 
The Spartans hold a 9-2-1 all-time record against the Highlanders. Radford has never beaten UNCG in Greensboro in its history with matchups dating back to 1993. The Spartans have won two out of the last three games played with the last one being on October 8, 2024, where UNCG won 3-0. 
 
SERIES HISTORY VS VCU 
The Spartans and Rams have met a total of seven times with a record of 3-2-1 in favor of UNCG. The last contest played was a 2-2 draw on September 10, 2022.  
 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS 

  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 10-2-5 overall with 3-1-1 in The Southern Conference (SoCon) and a shared Regular Season Title. 

  • UNCG fell to Furman in the SoCon Quarterfinal match. 

  • The squad boasts 11 returners from last season and nine seniors heading into this season. 

  •  The Spartans began the 2025 season with three exhibitions, two at home with Wake Forest and Cape Fear CC and one away at Virginia Tech. 

  • The Spartans were voted first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning four out of the total six first-place votes and totaling 24 points. 

  • UNCG debuted in the TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Top 25 poll, slotting in 23rd in the nation.  

  • The Spartans secured seven out of the 13 total spots in the 2025 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team, the league announced Monday. 

  • Senior forward Arnaud Tattevin was named to the 2025 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team, after earning first-team honors in 2024 after scoring seven goals and two assists.  

  •  Haurna was named SoCon Freshman of the Year last year. 

SCOUTING RADFORD 

  • Radford was slated to finish last in the Big South Preseason Coaches' Poll. 

  • The Highlanders closed out the 2024 season with an 0-13-3 overall record and 0-5-2 in conference action. 

  • Last season, Radford was shut out in five away games last season. 

  • Head Coach Chris Barrett enters his fourth season at the helm of the program. 

  • The 2025 roster welcomes a five-member freshmen class. 

  • The Highlanders will return to Radford, Virginia, for their first regular season home game, playing host to Liberty on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Cupp Stadium. 

SCOUTING VCU 

  • The VCU Rams concluded the 2024 season 4-6-7 overall and 1-4-3 in the A-10. 

  • The Rams played spoiler throughout the 2024 season beating both then-ranked #15 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem and then-ranked #15 Penn at home while narrowly losing to the then-ranked #7 Marshall. 

  • Head Coach Dave Giffard enters his 15th season for the Rams with a record of 116-98-46 and three NCAA Tournament appearances under his tenure.  

  • VCU is selected to finish fifth in the A-10 according to the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coach's Poll. 

  • Senior defender Moussa Ndiaye ranked 18th in the nation in TopDrawerSoccer preseason player rankings.  

  • The Rams will open their season on Thursday by hosting #21 Akron at 7:00 p.m. at Sports Backers Stadium before coming to Greensboro on Sunday.

The UNCG men's soccer team will begin its 2025 regular season road slate with a trip to Florida starting on Thursday, August 28 where it takes on South Florida at Corbett Field in Tampa, Florida, at 7:00 pm. The Spartans will then take on the UCF Knights in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday August 31 at 7:00 pm.
