Men’s Soccer Dominates in Season Opener, 6-2

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team won the season opener, 6-2, against Radford on Thursday at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Greensboro, N.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team won the season opener, 6-2, against Radford on Thursday at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

How it Happened:

The Spartans came out of the gates to start the 2025 campaign, taking five shots within the first 20 minutes with results quickly following. In the eighth minute, Enzo Dovlo made a massive run against the Highlanders' backline and eked out a shot from outside the box that got past the goalkeeper to put UNCG up, 1-0. Shortly afterwards, in the 13th minute, Dovlo received a pass from Daniel Longo and from within the box slotted a shot past the Highlander goalkeeper to put UNCG up 2-0 early. This is Dovlo's second brace of his career with the last one coming in the season opener of 2024 against USC Upstate on August 22. Radford clawed back with a goal back in the 26th minute after scrum outside the goal, allowing a shot to squeak through, putting the score at 2-1. The Spartans maintained the pressure throughout the first half totaling 13 shots and nine shots on goal in the first half. UNCG broke through again before half time in the 41st minute, with a Julien Le Bourdoulous free kick that put the score at 3-1.

The Spartans continued to besiege the Radford defense coming out of halftime. In the 48th minute, true freshman Trym Linberg scored in his collegiate debut from an assist by Longo. Radford would get another shortly after in the 56th minute to make the score 4-2. But an Arnaud Tattevin goal by way of a cross from Dovlo in the 57th minute added an insurance tally, extending the lead to 5-2. UNCG was able to squeeze in one more goal in the 70th minute by Le Bourdoulous with assists from Mohammed Sumaila and Trym Linberg to put the score at its final mark of 6-2.

By the numbers:

  • UNCG held the advantage in shots on goal, 13-3.
