Men’s Soccer Hosts Dayton

The No. 12 ranked UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team will host Dayton Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in UNCG Soccer Stadium. The Flyers have received votes in the Top 25 and were ranked 25th after week one of action.

SERIES HISTORY VS DAYTON 
The Spartans hold a 1-0-1 record against the Flyers, with the last matchup being in 2007 ending in a 1-1 draw. The last time the Spartans earned a win over Dayton was in 1996, when UNCG won The Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished 17th in the country.   

 
 
 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS 

  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 10-2-5 overall and 3-1-1 in the SoCon and a shared Regular Season Title. 

  • The squad boasts 11 returners from last season and nine seniors heading into this season. 

  • The Spartans were voted first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning four out of the total six first-place votes and totaling 24 points. 

  • The Spartans enter this matchup having a 13-game home unbeaten streak during the regular season. Last time UNCG lost at home was to the then-ranked No. 4 West Virginia on Sept 26, 2023.  

  • The Spartans are currently ranked 12th in the nation by both the United Coaches Poll and 22nd in TopDrawer Soccer Poll. 

  • UNCG also is sitting fourth in the United Soccer Coaches South Region Poll and is the only one of two non-ACC schools in the rankings. 

  • Enzo Dovlo was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for week one of the season with five goals and one assist after the first two games played.  

  • Dovlo leads the nation in goals (6) and points (14) after two weeks of action.  

  • Sami Lachekar was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week of week two after clocking in 180 minutes of action with one goal in two games played. 

  • Daniel Longo is 11th in the nation in assists with three so far this season. 

  • UNCG scored three out of its 12 total goals from set pieces. 

  • The Spartans boast one of the best offenses in the nation. Ranking Top 5 in shot accuracy (.636), total goals (12) and total points (33). 

SCOUTING DAYTON 

  • Dayton went 14-3-3 last year with the Atlantic-10 (A-10)Championship and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They ended the season ranked 11th in the nation.  

  • Head Coach Dennis Currier enters his 21st season at the helm going 195-123-64 in his time there. 

  • Dayton was picked to finish first in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Preseason Poll.  

  • Dayton has four players named to the 2025 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team. Paul Yeboah, Miles Bonham, Ethan Sassine and Andrew Armstrong were all named. 

  • The Flyers boast one of the best defenses in the nation, being ranked 14th in goals against average (.250),16th in save percentage (.933) and 14th in shutout percentage (.750).  

  • Dayton beat then-ranked No. 20 Western Michigan, 4-0, on Aug.24.  

  • Goalkeeper Gavin Krenecki paces the team with 14 saves this season.
