Men’s Tennis to Participate in Davidson Fall Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will compete in its second tournament of the fall semester this weekend, the Davidson Fall Invitational from Sept. 27-29 in Davidson, North Carolina.

RETURNERS
The Spartans have welcomed back five from last year's roster, including juniors Andrew Black, John Gabelic, Tymofiy Khrystyuk, Devon Moskowitz and redshirt junior Luke Thomson.

NEWCOMERS
UNCG has three new faces on its roster this season, including William Elmers, Eric Lindemann and Alan Trbonja.

LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans picked up three doubles wins and five singles victories while hosting the UNCG Fall Invitational in Greensboro from Sept. 13-14.

Moskowitz and Black teamed up for two doubles matches and won both for two of the Spartans' three victories in doubles. Additionally, Black paced the UNCG with two more wins in singles play on Saturday.

PREVIOUSLY AT THE DAVIDSON FALL INVITATIONAL
UNCG earned 13 victories in last year's Davidson Fall Invitational, including eight in doubles and five in singles.

Gabelic and Harrison Gwynn had two wins in singles while Moskowitz, Thomson, Black and Hampus Johansson each earned one victory.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
DAVIDSON – The Wildcats concluded the 2023-24 season with an 8-13 mark overall and a 2-3 record competing in the Atlantic 10. When UNCG and Davidson met head-to-head last season, the Wildcats prevailed by a 4-3 margin in Greensboro.

The Wildcats won a pair of doubles matches at the UNCG Fall Invitational back on Sept. 13. Additionally, four members of the team won singles matches on Sept. 14 in Greensboro.

GARDNER-WEBB – The Runnin' Bulldogs cruised to a 20-4 overall record last season with a 4-0 mark in Big South conference play.

The team recently competed at the 10k Clay Court Tournament from Sept. 6-9 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Highlighting the event were graduate Eduardo Dias and senior Numa Lemieux-Monette, who took home the doubles championship. Another standout performer for the Runnin' Bulldogs was senior Kim Niethamme.

LONGWOOD – The Lancers are coming off a season where they finished 8-8 overall and 1-3 in the Big South before falling to Gardner-Webb in the first round of the conference tournament.

Longwood opened it fall slate by winning 21 matches, including 15 in singles and six in doubles, at the UMW Kickoff Classic in Fredericksburg, Virginia, from Sept. 7-8.

QUEENS – The Royals finished the 2023-24 campaign with an 11-11 overall record as well as a 3-6 mark in Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) play.

Senior Laurenz Blickwede returns to the roster this season after being named to the All-ASUN Second Team a season ago. He finished the season with a 11-8 record in singles. Blickwede also went 7-7 at the top court and finished 4-4 in conference play. In doubles play, he recorded a 5-13 overall record.
 
RADFORD – The Highlanders finished last season at 1-17 overall and 0-4 in the Big South.

The Spartans stormed to a 7-0 win over the Highlanders last spring in Radford, Virginia.
