Men’s Tennis Begins ITA Regionals in Cary on Thursday

CARY, N.C. – Three members of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Carolina Regional Championships, hosted by Duke from Thursday to Tuesday at Cary Tennis Park.

CARY, N.C. – Three members of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Carolina Regional Championships, hosted by Duke from Thursday to Tuesday at Cary Tennis Park.

Juniors John Gabelic and Tymofiy Khrystyuk as well as redshirt junior Luke Thomson will be making their way to Cary, North Carolina, to compete.

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

  • Details for both singles and doubles as well as schedules and court assignments for the tournament will be available here once finalized.
  • This event will host many Division-I schools and a total of 136 student-athletes from around the Carolinas.
  • Play will begin on Thursday at 9:00 a.m.

COMPETING FOR UNCG

  • John Gabelic and Tymofiy Khrystyuk will compete in singles.
  • Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson will compete together in doubles.
  • Gabelic will be competing in a qualifying round on Thursday.
  • Khrystyuk will compete in the main draw on Friday.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

  • Gabelic is 2-3 while competing in singles play this fall.
  • Khrystyuk is 0-2 in doubles and 1-1 in singles after competing at the UNCG Fall Invitational from Sept. 13-15.
  • Thomson is 0-5 so far in doubles.

PREVIOUSLY AT THE ITA REGIONALS
Khrystyuk earned UNCG's only victory at the Regionals a season ago, claiming a consolation victory over Naresh Mithran from North Carolina Central, 6-4, 7-6 (15-13).
