Men’s Soccer Draws with Second Straight Ranked Opponent, No. 5 West Virginia
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team came back to even the score twice on the way to a 2-2 draw at No. 5 West Virginia on Tuesday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Sophomore forward Arnaud Tattevin and fifth year forward Mikey Ketteman scored the first and second equalizers, respectively. On the other end of the pitch, redshirt sophomore Seth Wilson made a pair of saves in the contest.
It marks back-to-back games tying a top-20 opponent for the Spartans, who were coming off a scoreless draw against No. 19 Charlotte last Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
WVU struck first with Marcus Caldeira scoring in the fifth minute. However, Tattevin provided a quick answer in the sixth minute, scoring with his left foot after receiving a pass from senior midfielder Yoshiya Okawa near the top of the 18-yard box. The Mountaineers reclaimed the lead in the 23rd minute when Sergio Ors Navarro found the bottom-left corner of the net on a penalty kick, that was set up by a UNCG handball.
After one half of action in Morgantown, the Mountaineers owned a 2-1 edge in the score column and 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The second half saw the Spartans tie it, 2-2, in the 59th minute. Ketteman scored the equalizer by cleaning up a rebound that Keanan Bader fired on goal after receiving a corner kick from Jack Birch. UNCG threatened again on a corner kick sent in by Birch in the 81st minute, forcing WVU's Marc Bonnaire to make another massive save that then glanced off the right post before being cleared from danger. The Spartans and Mountaineers went back-and-forth the rest of the way. UNCG thwarted one final push from WVU in the final seconds, which saw Wilson challenge a shooter and force him to fire a shot high over the crossbar at the horn.
