Women’s Basketball Falls at San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team fell to the San Francisco Dons, 64-40, on Wednesday evening inside War Memorial at The Sobrato Center.

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team fell to the San Francisco Dons, 64-40, on Wednesday evening inside War Memorial at The Sobrato Center.
 
Makiah Asidanya led the Spartans with 19 points. Jeni Levine notched 10 points to round out UNCG's double-figure scoring.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dons started off the contest with six-straight points before Levine cut the deficit to three with a triple at 7:53, 6-3. San Francsico knotted a 4-0 run before a layup from Asidanya at 5:51 propelled a 9-0 Spartan run for a 12-10 lead. However, the Dons responded with six unanswered points to regain the lead, 16-12 and hold it for the remainder of the game. The first quarter was concluded with San Francisco holding a 22-15 advantage.
 
The Dons utilized a 48.1 field goal percentage in the second frame to add to their scoring margin. Both teams headed to break with San Francisco holding a 33-18 lead at the half.
 
San Francisco secured the first four points of the second half, but the Spartans bounced back with a 5-0 run. The Spartans turned on the momentum in the third quarter, outscoring the Dons 20-17 in the frame. UNCG knocked down four three-pointers in the third quarter, with three of those coming from Asidanya alone. The third stanza was ended with a triple from Asidanya, but San Francisco stayed on top going to the huddle, 50-38.
 
San Francisco picked up the pace in the final frame, outscoring UNCG, 14-2, to walk away comfortably with 64-40 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Asidanya's 19 points was a season-best and was one point away from her career high of 20.
  • Asidanya paced the game with three triples and went 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
  • Tasia Johnson added seven points.
  • Rylan Moffitt led UNCG with nine rebounds and two steals.
  • Four Spartans chipped in an assist.
