Women’s Golf Places Fourth at National Golf Invitational

MARICOPA, Ariz. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished fourth on Sunday at the 2025 National Golf Invitational at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.

MARICOPA, Ariz. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished fourth on Sunday at the 2025 National Golf Invitational at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.

Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine led UNCG and tied for seventh at four-over-par (220) with round scores of 73-75-72.

TEAM

  • The Spartans placed fourth at 36-over-par (900) after shooting 300-310-290 in the three-round and three-day event.
  • UNCG shot the third round's best score at 290 to jump up four spots to fourth.
  • UNCG finished three strokes shy of third-place North Texas and two ahead of fifth-place Oral Roberts.
  • The only other foe from The Southern Conference (SoCon), Mercer, finished in ninth at 49-over-par (913).
  • UNCG tied for second in the tournament with a 13-over-par score on par threes, averaging 3.22 strokes per hole.
  • The Spartans were also second on par fives, shooting nine-under-par with a 4.85 stroke average.
  • The Spartans also finished fourth with 151 pars and 37 birdies.
  • Santa Clara won the team title at 22-over-par (886).

INDIVIDUAL

  • McIlvaine led UNCG and tied for seventh overall at four-over-par (220). She posted 73-75-72 in the three rounds and tied for second on par fours at two-over-par with a 4.07 stroke average. McIlvaine led the tournament with 41 pars.
  • Senior Ava Romfo finished second for the Spartans and tied for ninth at five-over-par (221). She shot 71-78-72 and finished second overall with 12 birdies.
  • Freshman Lulu Leetham was third on the team and tied for 25th overall at 12-over-par (228) with round scores of 75-80-73. She is tied for second when playing on par threes, averaging three strokes per hole for an even score.
  • Freshman Sophie Lauture jumped up seven spots into a tie for 37th at 19-over-par (235) with round scores of 79-79-77.
  • Junior Julia Baeumken moved up eight spots on Sunday to tie for 40th at 20-over-par (237) with rounds of 80-84-73.
  • Eastern Michigan's Angelica Holman hung on to win the individual title by one stroke at even-par (216).

SEASON RECAP
UNCG finished fifth or better in nine of its 12 total events this season. The Spartans won their first tournament since the 2011-12 season after placing first in the Puerto Rico Shootout in Humacao, Puerto Rico, on March 6.

UNCG also earned a runner-up finish hosting the UNCG Collegiate from Oct. 21-22, which saw senior Ava Romfo win the individual title.
