Women’s Soccer Hosts High Point, Travels to Charlotte

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team will host High Point on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Staium and then travel to Charlotte on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at Transamerica Field.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team will host High Point on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium and then travel to Charlotte on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at Transamerica Field.

SERIES HISTORY VS High Point  
The Spartans have a record of 8-5-2 all-time against the Panthers. High Point has taken three out of the last five meetings against UNCG. The last time the Spartans beat the Panthers in Greensboro was in 2018, with the score 4-0.  
 

SERIES HISTORY VS Charlotte  
The Spartans and 49ers met last season in Greensboro, North Carolina, on September 1, 2024, with the result being a 1-0 win for the Spartans. UNCG has a record of 5-1-5 all-time against Charolette but hasn't beaten them in Charlotte since 2000.  
   

 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS  

  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 5-9-5 overall and 3-3-3 in The Southern Conference (SoCon).  

  • UNCG defeated The Citadel, 3-0, in the first round of the 2024 SoCon Tournament but fell to second-seeded Samford, 2-1, in the SoCon Quarterfinal round to conclude the season.  

  • The Spartans began the 2025 season with three exhibitions, two at home with Virginia Tech and James Madison and one away at UNC Asheville.  

  • The Spartans were voted to finish sixth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 45 points.  

  • Redshirt senior midfielder Rachel Poplin was named to the 2025 SoCon Preason All-Conference Team. 

  • Poplin has started and played in all 19 games the past two seasons for the Blue & Gold with a career total of 3,238 minutes. She notched two goals for four points during the 2024 campaign.  

  • Taylor Mentzer is the returning leading scorer for the Spartans after the senior recorded five goals last season.  

  • Goalkeeper Emma Malone has made 16 saves so far this season. 

  • Ryen Ortiz leads the team in shots taken this season with 12. 

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS  

  • The Panthers went 9-7-3 last season and 5-3-1 in The Big South Conference.  

  • Head Coach Aaron McGuiness enters into his third season at the helm for High Point.  

  • The Panthers were selected to finish second in the Big South Women's Soccer Preseason Poll. High Point also aquired four first place votes missing out of the top spot by one point.   

  • Big South Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year was Aubrey McKessy from High Point. She currently is tied for 40th in the nation in saves per game with 5.80 per game.   

  • So far this season, the Panthers have only scored three goals in five games played.   

  • High Point currently has a –4 goal differential this season, which is seventh in the Big South  

SCOUTING THE 49ners  

  • Charlotte went 4-8-7 last season and 3-2-5 in the American Conference. 

  • Head Coach Sinead Byrne enters her first year as head coach of the program.   

  • Charlotte is predicted to finish seventh in the American this season.   

  • Senior Megan Bradley is the 49ners leading scorer with two goals and two assists for six points on the season.   

  • Charolette is currently 1-1 at home this season.

The Spartans will travel to Liberty on Thursday, Sept. 11. Kick-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. at Osborne Stadium.
