Softball to Face Elon and Sacred Heart Saturday and Sunday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team will take a short trip over to Elon, North Carolina, for two games on Saturday, playing Elon at 1:30 p.m. and then Sacred Heart at 4:00 p.m. at Hunt Softball Park.
UNCG will return to the UNCG Softball Stadium on Sunday to host Sacred Heart at 1:30 p.m. and Elon at 4:00 p.m. Elon and Sacred Heart will play each other at 11:00 a.m.
UNCG secured a 9-2 victory over Elon earlier this season on Feb. 9 at Hunt Softball Park to extend an eight-game winning streak over Elon dating back to March 20, 2022.
The Spartans hosted the Pioneers in the Spiro Classic last season, taking down the visiting team, 5-3, on Feb. 16, 2024, at the UNCG Softball Stadium in the two team's last meeting.

- UNCG most recently earned a dominating win over Greensboro rival North Carolina A&T, 13-1, in five innings on Wednesday at Lady Aggies Softball Complex.
- Jorde Chartrand went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, three RBI, a home run and a walk.
- Betsy Eatmon swung 2-for-2 with one run scored, three RBI, a triple and a walk.
- Macy Michael went 1-for-2 with one run scored, four RBI, a walk and a grand slam.
- Rylie Williams swung 1-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and a home run.
- In the circle, Addy Berry tossed 5.0 innings, giving up five hits, one earned run and struck out six for her first-collegiate win.

- UNCG has won the last 11 of its 12 games to head into the weekend with a 12-3 overall mark on the 2025 season.
- The Spartans are ranked in the top 50 nationally in home runs (3rd/31), home runs per game (3rd/2.07), slugging percentage (4th/.671), RBI per game (4th/8.07), scoring (6th/8.60), walks (8th/74), RBI's (9th/121), triples (9th/7), total runs (11th/129), on base percentage (13th/.453), hits (14th/152), triples per game (15th/0.47), batting average (15th/.360), total sacrifice flies (34th/6), doubles (40th/24) and doubles per game (50th/1.60)
- UNCG is pacing the SoCon in batting average, hits, home runs, home runs per game, on base percentage, RBI per game, RBI, scoring, slugging percentage, total runs, triples, triples per game and walks.
- Kaylyn Belfield is leading the SoCon and 31st nationally with a .500 batting average. She is also 19th in the country with two triples.
- Grace Loftin is first in the conference and 33rd in the country with 22 hits this season. She is also 30th nationally with 18 runs scored and 25th with 42 total bases.
- Four Spartans are in the top-40 in the country in home runs, including Williams (8th/7), Meredith Harwood (20th/6), Michael (33rd/5) and Jessy Shipley (33rd/5).
- Salem Ward stands out nationally in the circle at 18th with 50.0 innings pitched and 26th with 46 strikeouts.
- Chartrand is fifth nationally with three sacrifice flies.
- Ward earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 17 after going 4-0 in the Spiro Invitational.
- UNCG was chosen to finish second in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Spartans received one first-place vote.
- The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 33-26 overall and 13-8 in the SoCon.
- It was the fifth-straight season with 30 or more wins.
- It was also the ninth year with 30 or more wins under the direction of Head Coach Janelle Breneman, who is in her 13th year with the Blue & Gold.
- The Spartans saw another successful statistical year, leading the SoCon in home runs per game (1.37), home runs (81), slugging percentage (0.490), triples per game (0.22) and walks (240).
- UNCG was also ranked nationally in the top 30 in four categories: sixth in walks, 11th in home runs, 14th in home runs per game and 30th in slugging percentage.
- Loftin was named to the SoCon Preseason First Team, while Eatmon and Chartrand were voted to the Preseason Second Team.
- The Spartans reached the SoCon Championship game for the sixth-straight year in 2024, excluding the COVID 2020 shortened season, falling to Chattanooga in the double elimination game.
- UNCG added four freshmen and two transfers.
- The Spartans have four of their pitchers returning this season, including Chartrand.
RUNDOWN ON ELON
- Elon comes into the weekend with a 5-9 overall record on the 2025 slate.
- The Phoenix most recently fell in a 13-2, five inning matchup with the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Wednesday.
- Prior to that, Elon went 2-2 at the Clemon Classic, taking losses to Marshall and Clemson, but securing two wins over Villanova to close out the tournament in Clemson, South Carolina.
- The Phoenix are leading the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) with 12 homers this season.
- Elon is 20th in the country and second in the league with seven total sacrifice flies.
- Allee Seering is fifth nationally and leads the CAA with three sacrifice flies. She leads the team with 18 hits, 28 total bases and a .409 batting average.
- Isley Duggins leads the squad in the circle with 13 strikeouts and one save this season.
- Elon was voted to finish sixth out of 12 teams in the 2025 CAA Preseason Poll.
- The Phoenix concluded the 2024 slate with a 23-29 overall mark and a 17-10 CAA mark.
- Fifth-year Gabi Schaal, senior McKenna McCard and junior Mauri Murray were selected to the 2025 Preseason All-CAA Team. Seering was an honorable mention nod.
RUNDOWN ON SACRED HEART
- The Pioneers head to the Triad after going 2-2 in their only tournament so far this season at Gardner-Webb from Feb. 14-16.
- Sacred Heart fell to Robert Morris (1-0) and Gardner-Webb (10-2) but secured its second matchup with Runnin' Bulldogs (6-3) and took down Iona (10-7).
- The Pioneers had their best season in five years in 2024, winning 27 games and making their first Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament appearance since 2021.
- Heading into their first season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), the Pioneers were slotted in a tie for seventh in the league's preseason poll.
- Sacred Heart tied Fairfield with 94 points, just two shy of matching No. 6 Iona.
- Cierra Bender is 15th in the country with a 1.50 RBI per game average. She leads the team with six RBI.
- Savannah Moore leads the team with a .625 batting average.
- Moore and Charlene Davis stand out with five hits apiece this season.
- Sam Kowalski is the leading pitcher for the Pioneers after striking out nine batters in two games played.
