Softball Extends Win Streak to Five with 3-1 Victory Over Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team defeated The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Furman on Friday night, 3-1, at Pepsi Stadium extending its win streak to five.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team defeated The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Furman on Friday night, 3-1, at Pepsi Stadium extending its win streak to five.
 
UNCG improves to 28-10 overall and 5-2 in the SoCon and Furman falls to 13-23 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
 

  • The Spartans kicked off the game with back-to-back singles from Samantha Beck and Kaylyn Belfield.
  • With one out, UNCG loaded the bases as Jorde Chartrand singled to left center and Betsy Eatmon drove in two runs with a base hit up the middle, 2-0.
  • After a scoreless second inning, Furman pushed across one run on a sacrifice fly from Perry before the Spartans threw out Burroughs who was tagging up from second, 2-1, for a double play.
  • Both teams stranded runners on in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but UNCG remained on top, 2-1.
  • In the top of the sixth on a 2-1 count, Hadley Gardner crushed her eighth homer of the season to lead off the inning, extending the lead to two, 3-1.
  • The Paladins threatened in the bottom of the sixth, but UNCG's defense retired the side.
  • Furman retired three-straight Spartan batters in the top of the seventh and the Paladins stranded two in the bottom of the frame but UNCG held on for the 3-1 win.

 
NOTES

  • Gardner went 1-for-3 with one run scored, one RBI and a homer.
  • Grace Loftin went 2-for-4.
  • Five other Spartans tallied one hit each.
