Softball Falls to Mercer

MACON, GA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to the Mercer Bears 7-0 on Sunday at Sikes Field to conclude regular season road play.

MACON, GA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to the Mercer Bears 7-0 on Sunday at Sikes Field to conclude regular season road play.
 
UNCG is 36-16 overall and 12-6 in The Southern Conference (SoCon), while Mercer is 28-23 overall and 8-9 in the conference.
 

  • After two scoreless innings for both teams, Mercer's Hallie Langford hit a solo home run to right field to give the Bears a 1-0 lead in the third.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Mercer broke the game open with six runs on four hits.
  • With the bases loaded and no outs, Grace Jones cranked the third pitch of her at bat over the right-center wall for a grand slam. The homer put Mercer up 5-0.
  • Laura Vigna followed with a single to center field and with one out, Hannah Rivers added on to the total with a two-run blast over the left-field wall, extending the Bears' lead to 7-0.
  • UNCG sprinkled hits throughout the game, including one in the top of the second, fourth, fifth and sixth.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will host Western Carolina on Saturday and Sunday next week in their final SoCon regular season series. The Catamounts and Spartans will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium and then follow that up with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Prior to the games on Saturday, the seniors and a parent or guardian will throw out the first pitch. Before the game on Sunday, our seniors will be recognized on field.
