Three Spartans Earn All-SoCon Freshman Honors at SoCon Outdoor Track Championships
BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track teams completed day two of the 2024 Southern Conference (SoCon) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Shauna Yelton Field, hosted by Samford University on Tuesday.
Three Spartans earned SoCon All-Freshman Team honors, while one from UNCG posted a personal best time, and four took home top-eight finishes.
Samuel Barnard, who earned SoCon All-Freshman Team honors, impressed the field with his fourth-place finish in the 800-meter finals, clocking in a time of 1:53.01. This is best finish for a Spartan from the men's program in the 800-meter run since Terry Wyatt placed second at the 2010 Championships.
Andrew Hamilton earned a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter finals, clocking in a time of 1:55.54. This is the first time since the 2009 Championships that UNCG has had two Spartans finish in the top eight of the event. At that championship, Terry Wyatt and Andy Clyne placed second and eighth place, respectively.
Khalid Abdullahi, who earned SoCon All-Freshman Team honors, placed seventh out of 12 competitors in the 5000-meter run. Abdullahi clocked in a time of 15:14.36.
Junior Colin Keck ran a personal best time of 3:58.06 in the 1500-meter run and took home seventh place out of 15 competitors. Sophomore Lane Prochaska, who also ran in the 1500-meter run, finished the event in 4:02.67. His time placed him ninth overall in his second appearance at a SoCon Outdoor Championship.
