Volleyball Drops Contest at Mercer
MACON, GA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team dropped its contest at Mercer (18-25, 20-25, 24-26) Friday night in Hawkins Arena in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The Spartans got out to an early 6-2 advantage over the Bears to hold the home team from taking the lead until later in the set. With UNCG in control, 11-5, Mercer tacked on a 12-1 run to take a 17-12 lead and maintain control the remainder of the game. Towards the end of the frame, the Spartans recorded a 4-1 run that featured three kills from Allie Sweet to come back within three, 21-18. However, Mercer was able to close out the first set with four-straight points, taking the game 25-18.
Set 2 – Kendall Lanclos posted back-to-back service aces to give UNCG the 2-0 lead to start set two. Both teams then traded 4-0 runs to go back-and-forth for a bit. With UNCG on top, 9-8, Mercer posted a 5-1 run to take a 13-10 lead. Despite the Spartans coming back to tie the game on a couple occasions, the Bears were able to hold the lead, taking set two, 25-20.
Set 3 – The final frame was a point-for-point duel seeing a total of 14 ties and five lead changes. The set came all the way down to the wire. With Mercer on top, 24-22, a kill from Connore' Siler-Nixon and a Mercer attack error, UNCG tied things up 24-24. However, the Bears were able to post the next two points to take set three, 26-24.
BY THE NUMBERS
- McKenna Timmerman paced the Spartans with 11 kills.
- Sweet followed closely behind with 10 kills to round out the double-digit kills for the Spartans.
- Gabby Seeds paced the squad with 26 assists.
- Lanclos collected two service aces to lead the team.
- Graylinn Serge led UNCG with 10 digs.
- Siler-Nixon and Sweet collected three blocks apiece.
