Volleyball Travels to Wofford & Hosts ETSU

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will continue The Southern Conference (SoCon) slate by traveling to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to take on Wofford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium before returning to Greensboro to host ETSU on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in Fleming Gym

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will continue The Southern Conference (SoCon) slate by traveling to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to take on Wofford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium before returning to Greensboro to host ETSU on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in Fleming Gym.
 

 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

  • UNCG most recently earned wins over The Citadel (3-2) on Friday and Mercer (3-1) on Saturday in Greensboro.
  • The last time the Spartans collected two SoCon wins in the same week was in the 2021 season with victories over Western Carolina (Nov. 10, 2021) and The Citadel (Nov. 13, 2021).
  • Gabby Seeds led the Spartans as the setter last week with 87 total assists and a 9.67 assists per set average.
  • She posted her third career double-double after notching a new career-best 60 assists and adding 10 digs in the team's win over The Citadel Friday night.
  • Robin Rosser stood out for the Spartans offensively week with a .338 hitting percentage across nine sets. In the team's win over The Citadel, she posted a .410 hitting percentage after notching 20 kills with only four errors in 39 attacks.
  • Chloe Nussbaum was the leading libero for the Spartans, recording 38 digs and posting a 4.22 digs per set average.
     

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

  • The Spartans come into the weekend at 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the SoCon.
  • UNCG is in a three-way tie for third place in the SoCon standings with Chattanooga and Furman.
  • The last time UNCG captured 11 wins in a season was in 2021.
  • The Blue & Gold stand at 8-1 at home, marking the best start at home since 2015 as that squad went 10-1 in Fleming Gym.
  • UNCG stands out in the top-50 nationally in three statistical categories: digs per set (25th/16.25) digs (30th/1,105) and opponent hitting percentage (48th/.176). 
  • The squad is pacing the SoCon in assists per set (11.99), digs per set (16.25), kills per set (12.79), assists (815), kills (870) and total digs (1,105).
  • Allie Sweet is currently ranked in the top-25 nationally among six statistical categories: attacks per set (2nd/12.79), total attacks (3rd/870), points (8th/344.0), total kills (9th/302), points per set (20th/5.06) and kills per set (22nd/4.44).
  • Sweet is leading the SoCon in attacks per set (12.79), kills per set (4.44), points (344.0), points per set (5.06), total attacks (870) and total kills (302).
  • Nussbaum stands out nationally at 21st in total digs (325) and 23rd in digs per set (4.78). She paces the league with her 325 total digs this season and is second with her 4.78 digs per set average.
  • Seeds is 44th in the country and second in the SoCon with a 9.80 assists per set average.
  • Seeds reached the 1,000-career assist milestone in the team's reverse sweep win over UNC Asheville on Sept. 20 in Greensboro.
  • The Spartans have collected four SoCon Player of the week mentions this season: Siler-Nixon (Oct. 6), Sweet (Sept. 1 & Sept. 15) and Nussbaum (Sept. 1)
  • The 2025 squad features 10 returners and six newcomers. Out of the six newcomers, four are transfer students and two are freshmen.
  • UNCG was picked to finish the SoCon regular season in a tie for fifth place with Chattanooga.
  • Sweet was selected to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • Sweet's preseason nod comes after being named SoCon Freshman of the Year, while also being voted to the All-SoCon First Team and All-Freshman Team last season.

SCOUTING WOFFORD

  • The Terriers come into the week with a 9-8 overall record and 5-1 mark in the SoCon, sitting at second place in the league standings.
  • Wofford most recently earned back-to-back straight-set victories over Mercer and Furman in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
  • Wofford stands out nationally in digs per set (33rd/15.83) and opponent hitting percentage (38th/.175).
  • The team's .175 opponent hitting percentage leads the SoCon.
  • Lane Klika paces the SoCon and is 16th nationally with a 4.92 digs per set average.
  • Chloe Smith is second in the conference and 24th nationally with a 11.65 attacks per set average.
  • Annemarie Rakoski is second in the SoCon with a 1.27 blocks per set average and 76 total blocks.
  • Wofford has earned five SoCon Player of the Week recognitions this season: Rakoski (Sept. 18, Sept. 15 & Oct. 13), Klika (Sept. 22) and Bradley Brown (Sept. 29).
  • The Terriers were selected to finish first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll with six first-place votes.
  • Brown, Klika and Bri Mahoney were all named to the 2025 Preseason All-Conference Team.

SERIES HISTORY VS THE WOFFORD
The Spartans lead in the overall series against the Terriers at 33-21. Wofford claimed both regular season matches against UNCG last season in straight sets.

SCOUTING ETSU

  • ETSU is pacing the SoCon with a 6-0 mark in the league and 12-5 overall record.
  • The Bucs most recently earned a 3-0 win over The Citadel on Thursday, followed by a 3-1 victory over Furman on Friday in Johnson City.
  • ETSU is pacing the SoCon with a .235 hitting percentage and is second in the league with a 1.61 aces per set average.
  • Makayla Bays is second in the conference with a 4.46 points per set average, a 3.95 kills per set average and 245 total kills.
  • Bailey Gohlke is the leading setter on the Bucs with 326 assists.
  • Melanie Morris paces the squad with 193 digs this season.
  • The Bucs have earned three SoCon Player of the Week recognitions this season with Makayla Bays earning the feat twice (Sept. 22 & Oct. 13) and Gohlke earning SoCon Setter of the Week this past Monday.
  • ETSU was voted to finish third in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Brianna Cantrell and Whitley Rammel were selected to the 2025 Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • ETSU will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to face Wofford on Friday at 6:00 p.m. before coming to Greensboro on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY VS ETSU
The Bucs lead in the overall series against the Spartans at 35-12. ETSU earned both regular season contests against UNCG last season with a 3-1 win in Johnson City and a 3-0 victory in Greensboro.
