Women’s Volleyball Concludes 2024 Home Slate by Hosting Chattanooga & Western Carolina
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will compete in its final home matches of the regular season by hosting Chattanooga on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Western Carolina on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in Fleming Gym.
Prior to Saturday's match, UNCG will recognize five seniors in Madeline Timmerman, Avery Sziksai, America Anderson, Emily Hanlon and Cece Fitz for their hard work and dedication to the UNCG Volleyball program.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG dropped two road matches in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play last weekend at Wofford (0-3) and The Citadel (0-3).
- Chloe Nussbaum led the Spartans as the libero last week with 37 digs for a 6.17 digs per set average. Twenty-One of those digs came in the team's match against The Citadel alone.
- Allie Sweet led the Spartans on the outside once again with 20 kills for a 3.33 kills per set average. The freshman added 11 digs, 4.0 total blocks and 23.0 points on the week.
- Izora Gragg led the Spartans as the setter with 30 total assists for a 5.00 assists per set average. The sophomore added five digs and 2.0 total blocks across the six sets.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- UNCG heads into the week with a 7-17 overall record and a 2-10 mark in SoCon play.
- The Spartans currently sit in eighth place in the SoCon standings, just above Western Carolina.
- Sweet is pacing the SoCon in six statistical categories and stands out nationally: attacks per set (13.61/2nd nationally), points (422.0/27th nationally), points per set (4.74/43rd nationally), attacks (1,211/3rd nationally) and kills (373/24th nationally).
- Gragg is ranked fourth in the conference and paces the team with 830 assists.
- Nussbaum is the leading libero on the team with 362 digs.
- Timmerman stands out in the middle with 74.0 total blocks this season.
- Sweet was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2 in the first round of weekly awards for the 2024 season.
- Head Coach Felicia Turner is in her second season at the helm of the UNCG volleyball team in 2024.
- Assistant Coach Trent Dunahoo is in his second season with the Spartans, while Assistant Coach Justin Paggao was added to the coaching staff in the summer of 2024.
- UNCG was picked to finish ninth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- The 2024 squad features seven returners and 10 newcomers (five freshmen and five transfers).
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
- The Mocs head to Greensboro with a 14-12 overall record and are 4-7 in SoCon action, sitting just above UNCG at seventh place.
- Chattanooga dropped both its matches at home last week against Mercer (0-3) and Furman (0-3).
- As a team, the Mocs are pacing the league in five statistical categories: hitting percentage (.228), assists (1,170), digs (1.720), kills (1,275) and attacks (3,646).
- Elaine Redman is leading the SoCon and is sixth nationally with 1,005 assists this season.
- Paige Gallentine stands out as the libero, pacing the SoCon with 487 digs and is eighth in the country.
- Chard'e Vanzandt is the best hitter on the team with 299 kills.
- Gallentine was named to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
- The Mocs were tabbed to finish seventh in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Chattanooga will head to down to Charleston, South Carolina, to take on The Citadel on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the weekend.
SERIES HISTORY VS CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs lead in the overall series against the Spartans at 33-23. Chattanooga took this season's previous meeting on Oct. 12, 3-1, in Tennessee.
SCOUTING WESTERN CAROLINA
- The Catamounts come into the weekend with a 7-17 overall record and a 1-10 mark in the SoCon.
- Western Carolina sits at ninth place in the conference standings, just behind UNCG.
- Janelle Blue is the leading middle hitter in the SoCon with 98 total blocks and a 1.17 blocks per set average.
- Ali Morris paces the team on the outside with 261 kills.
- Sarah Janourova is leading the team as the setter this season with 449 assists.
- Eda Yalcinkaya stands out as the best libero on the squad with 323 digs.
- The Catamounts were picked to finish just above the Spartans in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll at eighth place.
- Western Carolina will take on Wofford on Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Spartanburg, South Carolina, before coming to Greensboro Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY VS WESTERN CAROLINA
Western Carolina paces the overall meetings with UNCG at 35-27. The Spartans claimed the win over the Catamounts in Cullowhee this season, 3-1, on Oct. 11.
