Volleyball Falls to Chattanooga, 3-1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took a 3-1 loss (22-25, 11-25, 28-26, 11-25), to the Mocs of Chattanooga in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play in Fleming Gym Friday night.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took a 3-1 loss (22-25, 11-25, 28-26, 11-25), to the Mocs of Chattanooga in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play in Fleming Gym Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A kill from Allie Sweet, followed by a service ace from Chloe Nussbaum gave UNCG the first couple of points in Friday night's match. However, the Mocs responded with four points for the 4-2 advantage. Later, with UNCG down 15-9, the Spartans posted a 6-1 run to come back within one (15-14). UNCG chipped away to take the 20-19 lead, but Chattanooga was able to close out set one with a 6-2 run to earn the game, 25-22.
 
Chattanooga's Elaine Redman assisted to outside hitter Kynli Kirkendoll to give the Mocs the first point of set two, never allowing UNCG to lead in the frame. Chattanooga was able to control the entirety of game two clinching it, 25-11.
 
The third set went back-and-forth, coming down to the wire and seeing a total of 15 ties and eight lead changes. With Chattanooga on top, 23-20, the Spartans posted a 3-0 run to tie the game at 23. The remainder of the third game would be a battle, but tied at 26, a kill from Emily Hanlon and a service ace from Graylinn Serge secured UNCG set three, 28-26.
 
The Mocs picked up the momentum in the fourth set by notching six unanswered points to start things off, never allowing UNCG to lead in the final game. Chattanooga went on to claim set four, 25-11, for the 3-1 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Sweet led the match with 17 kills.
  • Hanlon followed closely behind with 11 kills.
  • Izora Gragg paced the team as the setter with 28 assists and added 10 digs for her ninth double-double of her career and the season.
  • Avery Sziksai stood out from the service line with three aces.
  • Nussbaum led the squad as the libero with 14 digs.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will conclude their 2024 home slate with Western Carolina on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in Fleming Gym.
 
Prior to Saturday's match, UNCG will recognize five seniors in Madeline Timmerman, America Anderson, Cece Fitz, Hanlon and Sziksai for their hard work and dedication to the UNCG Volleyball program.
