Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep Over Wofford
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team picked up another win over the Wofford Terriers, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game series sweep in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
It marks the second weekend sweep of the season for UNCG and the first in league play. With the win, the Spartans are alone at the top of the SoCon baseball standings at 7-2 in conference games.
Jeremy Wolf and Jose Perez got a rally started for UNCG in the fifth inning, which led up to the game's first run crossing the plate. After Wolf and Perez perfected a double steal to get to second and third, Wolf scored on an RBI groundout chopped over to first by Parker Wight.
Brantley Truitt added a run to the Spartans' lead, 2-0, when he hit a solo home run the opposite way over the wall in left.
Wofford scored its first run in the top of the seventh inning when Tyler Bak blooped a single to left. It scored Tanner Hardin after the cutoff home tossed the ball over to second attempting to retire Bak advancing to second on the initial throw into the infield.
After JJ Parsons doubled down the left-field line to open the bottom of the seventh, Perez tripled to the alley in right-center to score Parsons and make it 3-1. Perez then scored on a wild pitch during the next at-bat to make it 4-1 Spartans.
Rob Ready entered the game with the three-run lead to begin the eighth and pitched the final two innings to secure the 4-1 victory and earn a save.
