Baseball to Make Short Trek Tuesday to Face Wake Forest
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team is set to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in midweek non-conference action on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at David F. Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG won a three-game weekend series in The Southern Conference (SoCon) on Friday and Saturday at East Tennessee State (ETSU) in Johnson, City, Tennessee.
- After falling in Friday's opener, 17-3 in seven innings, the Spartans earned back-to-back one-run victories, 5-4 and 3-2, to sweep Saturday's doubleheader and win the series.
- Junior infielder Jeremy Wolf swung the hot stick during the series for UNCG, batting .455 (5-for-11) with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
- Freshman Parker Wight also had a big weekend, batting .455 (5-for-11) as well with a home run, double, RBI and two runs scored.
- The Spartans had a 29-28 edge in hits at ETSU over the weekend.
- Sophomore Noah Chapman, who is now 3-1, and senior Danny Thompson Jr., who is now 2-1, earned the wins in relief for UNCG on Saturday in Johnson City.

- The Spartans own an overall record of 14-17 with a 4-2 mark in the SoCon for a tie at first with Samford in the league standings.
- UNCG is off to a solid start in the SoCon, clinching back-to-back series wins in the league while on the road at VMI and ETSU.
- UNCG stands tied for 16th in the country with three shutouts this season, 22nd in strikeout-to-walk-ratio (2.69), 25th in walks allowed per nine innings (3.55) and 51st in strikeouts per nine innings (9.6).
- Junior right-hander Jay Miller leads the Spartans in total strikeouts with 51, which ranks 57th nationally.
- Thompson Jr. ranks 58th in the nation with four saves and 84th in the country with 48 strikeouts this season.
- Senior right-handed pitcher Sam Murchison is third on the team with 46 punchouts while sophomore southpaw Noah Chapman is fourth on the Spartans with 43 strikeouts.
- Murchison leads UNCG in wins with a 4-3 record, which, based on victories, stands 80th in NCAA Division I.
- The Spartans matched a season-high for runs (13) on March 29 at VMI in the 13-12 victory over the Keydets. UNCG previously plated 13 runs on March 2 vs. Pitt in a 13-11 win at home.
- Wolf leads the Spartans with a .372 (42-for-113) batting average and 11 doubles this season. He also leads the team with 23 runs scored.
- Wight leads UNCG with seven home runs and 18 RBI after hitting another one at ETSU. He has hit five home runs in the last eight games while being the only Spartan to play in all 31 games this season.
- Junior outfielder Luke Holland is second on the team with four home runs and 16 RBI.
- Junior infielder Jacob Budzik is 54th in NCAA Division I for doubles per game at a 0.42 clip.
- UNCG faced four consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents earlier in the season, amounting to eight-straight games from Feb. 18-March 4. The Spartans went 3-5 during the stretch.
- The Spartans opened the eight straight games against ACC foes with an upset over then-No. 13 Wake Forest at home, 4-0, on Feb. 18.
- The Spartans were voted to finish first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Right-handed pitcher Rob Ready was named one of two SoCon Preseason Pitchers of the Year by the league. The other was Michael Harpster of ETSU.
- In addition, a total of six Spartans were recognized on Preseason All-SoCon Teams. They were Ready (SP), Trey Truitt (DH), Holland (OF) and Grant Aycock (RP), who were named to the first team, while Hunter Shuey (SP) and Thompson Jr. (RP) rounded out the list on the second team.
- Chapman is back as well after being named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team in 2024.
- The Spartans are coming off a historic season where they posted an overall record of 33-21, marking their 19th 30-win campaign in the program's 34-season history.
- UNCG captured its third SoCon Regular Season Championship behind a conference record of 15-6 in 2024.
- Entering the SoCon Tournament as the top seed for the first time since 2018, UNCG ended the 2024 campaign with losses to Wofford, 5-2, and ETSU, 10-7, at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina.

- Head Coach Cody Ellis is in his second year at the helm of the UNCG baseball program after leading the Spartans last season, who were projected to finish sixth in the conference, to a regular season championship.
- He was named the 2024 SoCon Coach of the Year and had an interim tag removed following the season on May 28.

- Wake Forest owns an overall record of 23-10 with a 9-6 mark in the ACC this season.
- The Demon Deacons are coming off a two-game-to-one series victory over No. 4 Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida, over the weekend.
- After dropping game one of the slate on Friday, 5-4, the Demon Deacons cruised to a 12-0 win on Saturday before dominating Sunday, 17-2 in eight innings.
- Wake Forest ranks in the top 10 nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (1st, 12.6), shutouts (2nd, 6), base on balls (5th, 223), hits allowed per nine innings (6th, 7.00), doubles (7th, 77), home runs (7th, 63), hits (8th, 361), runs (8th, 314) and home runs per game (9th, 1.91).
- Sophomore Kade Lewis has been a force with the bat for Wake Forest this season, comfortably leading the team in batting average at a .455 (51-for-112) mark while also pacing the squad in hits (51) and total bases (91).
- Lewis, Marek Houston and Jack Winnay are all tied for the team lead at 10 home runs this season.
- Additionally, Lewis and Houston each pace the team with 45 RBI.
- A Third Team All-ACC selection as a sophomore, Houston was named to the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List and as a D1 Baseball First Team Preseason All-American. He was also listed a Second Team Preseason All-American by Perfect Game and The Athletic.
- Freshman right-handed pitcher Chris Levonas has made starts in the last five straight midweek tests for Wake Forest. He owns a 2.03 ERA, a .98 WHIP and .091 opponent batting average so far in 13.1 innings pitched.
- Sophomore right-hander Josh Gunther leads the Demon Deacons with four saves this season. He has posted 29 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched over 15 relief appearances, which is tied for the team's most appearances.
- Wake Forest was voted to finish fourth in the ACC Preseason Poll with 171 points after finishing the 2024 campaign fifth in the ACC Coastal Division and tied for eighth with Georgia Tech in the league as whole.
- Tom Walter completed his 15th season as the head coach of Wake Forest baseball in 2024.
SERIES HISTORY VS. ETSU
This will be the 67th all-time meeting between the Spartans and Demon Deacons. Wake Forest leads the series, which dates back to the 1992 season, 48-18.
UNCG knocked off then-No. 13 Wake Forest earlier this season on Feb. 18 in Greensboro, 4-0. The Spartans also upset the Demon Deacons when they were the nation's top team a year ago, winning 4-3 at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Feb. 20, 2024.

The Spartans will host their first SoCon series against the Wofford Terriers from Friday to Sunday in Greensboro. Start times are slated for 6:00 p.m. Friday, 2:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. Sunday at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
