GREENSBORO, N.C. Colin Dutton of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team has earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Amherst Regional, announced on Wednesday on the Golf Channel.

Dutton will compete at the Amherst Regional in Amherst, Virginia, from May 12-14 at Poplar Grove Golf Course. The Amherst Regional will consist of three rounds with one round on each of the three days.

Dutton claimed first place in The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships on Tuesday, April 22 to earn an automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Regionals. Dutton carded a 10-under-par (206) behind rounds of 69-66-71 over the three days. Dutton's six-under-par (66) in the second round matched his collegiate best and marked a new round best at UNCG.

The last time a Spartan earned the individual SoCon Championship was in the 2018 season when Nick Lyerly earned the feat. In addition, it is the third time in UNCG program history an individual Spartan was named the SoCon Champion.

UNCG finished in second place in the 2025 SoCon Championships with an overall score of 18-under-par (846) behind rounds of 277-285-284.

The Spartans carded four first-place finishes this season. UNCG finished first at the Sea Palms Invitational on March 15, 2025, the Dorado Beach Collegiate on Feb. 25, 2025, the Elon Invitational on Oct. 15, 2024, and the Bryan National Collegiate on Sept. 10, 2024. This is the first time in UNCG men's golf program history the team has collected four regular season tournament wins.

The 2025 NCAA Regionals will mark the ninth time in UNCG program history that the Spartans have made an NCAA Regionals appearance as either a team or individual. Dutton's spot in the NCAA Regionals will be the fourth time in program history a Spartan has earned the bid as an individual.

The other 13 teams in the Amherst Regional include: LSU, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Pepperdine, Tennessee, Arizona, Stanford, Wake Forest, Arkansas, Florida Golf Coast, Kent State, Princeton and Howard.

From the SoCon, East Tennessee State University (Reno Regional) and Furman (Tallahassee Regional) will also compete as team, while one individual at Chattanooga, Camden Braidech, (Auburn Regional) will all represent the conference this year in the NCAA Regionals.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals (not on those qualifying teams) who will compete in the finals. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals (not on those teams) will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals (not on those teams). The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals.

The 2025 NCAA National Championships will be hosted by the University of Texas at Austin from May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
