Dutton Earns First Place in SoCon Championships, Team Finishes Second

GREENSBORO, Ga. – Colin Dutton of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team earned first place in The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships, while the team finished in second place on Tuesday at Reynolds Plantation.

GREENSBORO, Ga. – Colin Dutton of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team earned first place in The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships, while the team finished in second place on Tuesday at Reynolds Plantation.

With Dutton's win, he earns an automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Regionals. The last time a Spartan earned the SoCon Championships player title was in the 2018 season when Nick Lyerly earned the feat. In addition, it is the third time in UNCG program history an individual Spartan was named the SoCon Championships player winner.

In addition, the last time the Spartans earned a second place finish in the SoCon Championships was in the 2021-22 season. 

TEAM

  • UNCG finished in second place in the 2025 SoCon Championships with an overall score of 18-under-par (846) behind rounds of 277-285-284.
  • ETSU clamed first place with a 28-under-par (836) after notching the best team round over the three-day tournament on Tuesday with a 14-under-par (274).
  • Western Carolina finished in third place with a 14-under-par (850).
  • Chattanooga came just behind to finish in fourth place with a 12-under-par (852).
  • Furman claimed fifth place with a six-under-par (858), while Samford rounded out the team under-par scorers to finish in sixth place with a three-under-par (861).
  • Wofford posted a one-over-par (865) to notch seventh place.
  • Mercer rounded out the team leaderboard with a four-over-par (868).
  • UNCG paced all teams with 64 birdies and finished second in the field with a 4.02 par fours average.

INDIVIDUAL

  • Dutton claimed first place in The SoCon Championships behind a 10-under-par (206). The senior carded rounds of 69-66-71 over the three days.
  • Dutton's' six-under-par (66) on Monday matched his collegiate best and marked a new round best at UNCG.
  • Dutton finished first with Chattanooga's Garrett Engle with 16 birdies, while Dutton also finished second in the field with a 3.87 par fours average.
  • Jack Marcotte moved up four positions in the final round to finish tied for third place with an eight-under-par (208). Marcotte notched rounds of 70-71 before matching his season best five-under-par (67) on Tuesday.
  • Marcotte finished tied for first with Chattanooga's Braedon Wear after both recorded a 4.33 average on par fives.
  • Marcotte was the only player to capture two eagles in the tournament.
  • Jake Lewis concluded the tournament in a tie for 10th place after posting a four-under-par (212) with rounds of 68-73-71.
  • Kelvin Herandez and B.J. Boyce rounded out the scorecard for the Spartans to finish tied for 31st and tied for 33rd, respectively.
  • Hernandez shot an overall score of four-over-par (220) with rounds of 70-75-75.
  • Boyce posted a five-over-par (221) behind scores of 70-76-75.
