Late Goal Sends No. 16 Georgetown Past No. 18 Men’s Soccer
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 18-rated UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 16 Georgetown following a late goal by the Hoyas in the 87th minute on Friday afternoon at Shaw Field.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Seth Wilson stood tall for the Spartans, matching a career-high by making five saves in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was a scoreless one between the Spartans and Hoyas. Wilson continued to shine for UNCG and extended his time without allowing a goal to 225 minutes, making two massive saves for the Blue & Gold in the opening 45 minutes.
The first half concluded with the Hoyas leading in corner kicks, 3-1, and in shots, 8-2.
The second half saw Georgetown apply more pressure, forcing Wilson to make another three saves for UNCG. The Hoyas broke the scoreless tie in the 87th minute when Mitchell Baker beat Wilson to a through ball near the box, won the 50-50 battle and finished into the empty goal.
The match concluded with Georgetown leading in corner kicks, 10-5, and shots, 20-4.
