ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team registered its first draw of the season against South Florida (USF) with a 1-1 game at Al Lang Stadium to maintain the unbeaten record for the season. Sami Lachekar scored his second collegiate goal, but the stubborn Bulls' defense only conceded one goal on nine shots and got the equalizer late to bring the match to a draw.

How it Happened:

The first half started out slow for both teams as offense was tough to come by. Both teams totaled only five shots in the first half with both defenses looking strong early. In the second half however, the script of the game flipped as the Spartans took to the offensive, dominating possession early on and capitalizing on runs into the box. This flurry of energy led to a corner in the 68th minute where a long cross from Arnaud Tattevin found senior defenseman Sami Lachekar who controlled it and buried a shot past the keeper to put UNCG up 1-0.  This is Lachekar's second collegiate goal of his career with 51 games of action in his four-year career in the Spartans' backline.

Southern Florida tried to respond but the Spartan defense was holding strong until the 74th minute, when a misplay on the ball allowed a Bulls' attacker down the wing to cross in and find its way into the goal for the equalizer.

The final 15 minutes of action was an offensive frenzy with four shots taken in total from both sides trying to get the final goal to one up each other. The last chance for the Spartans was snuffed out as a Tattevin breakaway pushed a shot high over the bar at 89:46 minute mark sealing the 1-1 draw.

  • The Spartans outshot the Bulls, 9-7

  • USF's goalkeeper had four saves throughout the match
