GREENVILLE, S.C – The No. 18 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team was defeated, 2-0, by Furman at Stone Stadium on Saturday. UNCG outshot the Paladins and had multiple shots hit off the post but did not translate into a goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Spartans dominated midfield play to begin the match and advanced the ball into the offensive zone. UNCG fired off six straight shots in the first half to keep the Furman defense on its toes. The most dangerous chance came in the 24th minute, when a shot from Magnus Kjoller careened off the post and out of bounds, just a mere inches away from scoring. The Paladin offense reestablished possession to end the half taking two unanswered shots, but both were off target to end the half, 0-0.

In the second half, Furman gained control early as the UNCG defense was put on the back foot. In the 57th minute, a run from a Paladin attacker got behind the Spartan defense and buried a shot into the back of the net to put Furman up 1-0. The Spartans tried to respond by taking three unanswered shots in the middle of the second half but were all off target. In the 78th minute, a beautiful build up play led Enzo Dovlo to get the ball and pass to freshman Trym Linberg, who sent a shot that beat the keeper, but again was denied by the post.

The ball bounced harmlessly out of bounds to snuff out the potential equalizer. Shortly after in the 82nd minute, the Paladins secured an insurance goal that put them up 2-0. UNCG made the last eight minutes of action interesting by taking three shots but were unfortunately thwarted by the Furman defense which ended the match.
