Men’s Tennis to Open SoCon Championship Facing Samford
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team enters The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament as the No. 6 seed, taking on No. 3 Samford in the SoCon Quarterfinals on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- UNCG is 9-13 overall and finished 2-5 in the SoCon to earn the No. 6 seed for the tournament.
- The Spartans are coming off a 6-1 loss hosting Chattanooga to conclude the regular season at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
- UNCG earned its victories in SoCon action at home against The Citadel, 5-2 on March 7, and Wofford, 5-2 on March 17.
- All nine of the Spartans' wins this season have come at home. UNCG is 9-4 at home and 0-9 on the road.
- Tymofiy Khrystyuk was named to the All-SoCon Singles Second Team on Wednesday.
- William Elmers and John Gabelic are leading the Spartans in doubles with a team-best 6-4 record.
- Elmers and Luke Thomson have been the next-best doubles pair on the team at 4-4.
- Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz are 9-12 so far while competing in doubles.
- Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson own a 3-7 mark together in doubles this season.
- Elmers is the best on the team as an individual competing in doubles with an 11-8 record.
- Gabelic is second on the squad with a 10-9 record in doubles.
- Moskowitz leads the Spartans with a 14-7 record in singles.
- Black owns the second-best singles record so far at 10-12.
- Gabelic is third on the team with an 9-13 mark in singles.
- Khrystyuk is fourth on the squad with eight wins and an 8-14 record.
- Black and Moskowitz were ranked No. 79 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Doubles Rankings on Dec. 5, 2024.
- Black and Moskowitz teamed up to post a 7-0 record and six points for their first national ranking in either singles or doubles. The duo earned its seven wins during the fall season, with a pair during the UNCG Fall Invitational, three at the Davidson Fall Invitational and two more during the Spartan Fall Invitational.
- The Spartans played in five different tournaments this past fall including the UNCG Fall Invitational, Davidson Fall Invitational, ITA Regional Championships, Spartan Fall Invitational and Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
- Last season's men's tennis squad finished 6-16 overall with an 0-7 mark in the SoCon.
- The season ended with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded ETSU in the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- Khrystyuk paced the team in singles with a 9-10 record. Gabelic was right behind him with a 9-12 record for the season.
- Khrystyuk and Thomson led the way for the Spartans in doubles play with a 5-6 record and 2-2 mark in the SoCon.
- The Spartans have five returning juniors on their roster this season as well as three freshmen (Elmers, Eric Lindemann and Alan Trbonja) who are in their first year at UNCG.
- Head Coach Jeff Trivette is in his 25th season with UNCG Tennis.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Samford finished the regular season 16-5 overall with a 6-1 record in the SoCon to finish in a three-way tie for the SoCon regular season title.
- The Bulldogs won 4-3 at Mercer last Saturday to earn a share of the regular season trophy and third seed for the tournament.
- Samford is vying for its third tournament title and first since claiming the crown in 2013.
- The Bulldogs have earned five straight wins, including a 7-0 victory most recently on Friday while hosting Chattanooga.
- Samford is led in doubles by Sebastian Harrison and Vitorio Sardinha, who have combined for a 9-2 record together.
- Darcy Nicholls and J.B. Pickard stand at 12-5 in doubles together.
- Sandeep Mohandoes leads the Bulldogs in singles victories with a 15-5 record.
- Last season saw the Bulldogs finish with a 15-8 record and 6-1 mark in the SoCon. Their season ended with a 4-2 loss to ETSU in the championship match of last year's SoCon Tournament.
- The Bulldogs are under the tutelage of Head Coach Oliver Reynolds and Assistant Coach Maxwell Giddens.
THE HISTORY BETWEEN UNCG & SAMFORD
The Bulldogs are 3-0 against the Spartans all-time in the tournament, with all three matchups coming in the quarterfinals. Samford downed UNCG, 6-1, earlier this season on March 29th.
