Men’s Tennis Secures 4-2 Victory Over UNC Asheville
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team secured a 4-2 victory in a non-conference matchup with the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville on Tuesday at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
UNCG put the first point on the scoreboard after capturing two doubles matches. John Gabelic and Tymofiy Khrystyuk defeated Cian Ingles and Freddy Murray, 6-0, on court one to start the match. Devon Moskowitz and Andrew Black granted the Spartans with a 1-0 lead after taking down Griffin Lovern and Trevor Gray on court three, 6-4. William Elmers and Luke Thomson's matchup with Olle Lidholt and Tarek Erlewein on court two remained unfinished with Lidholt and Erlewein holding a 5-3 advantage.
Tuesday's matchup against the Bulldogs was shortened to five singles matches due to UNC Asheville not having a sixth player available for singles. Therefore, the Spartans were able to hold a 2-0 lead at the start of singles play.
Thomson put UNCG up 3-0 when he recorded a 6-3, 6-1, victory over Ingles on court three. Erlewein cut the Bulldogs' deficit to two after securing a 6-3, 6-2 win over Khrystyuk on court one, 3-1. Lindholt was able to put UNC Asheville within one with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Gabelic on court two to make it 3-2 Spartans. However, Black notched a three-set battle over Lovern on court four, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, to clinch the match for the Spartans, 4-2. Moskowitz and Gray's matchup on court five remained unfinished at 5-7, 6-2, 4-4.
