Men’s Tennis to Host USC Sumter Friday, Travel to Queens in Charlotte Sunday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team is set to host its first home match of the spring on Friday at 1:00 p.m. against USC Sumter before traveling to face Queens University in Charlotte on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- UNCG is off to an 0-2 start to the season after falling 4-3 on the road against North Carolina Central last Saturday and 6-1 while facing Gardner-Webb on Wednesday.
- The Spartans lone point on Wednesday came from doubles play thanks to wins by William Elmers and John Gabelic as well as Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz.
- Elmers and Gabelic are now a perfect 2-0 to start the season in doubles.
- Black and Moskowitz are 1-1 while competing in doubles this season.
- Black and Moskowitz were ranked No. 79 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Doubles Rankings on Dec. 5, 2024.
- Black and Moskowitz teamed up to post a 7-0 record and six points for their first national ranking in either singles or doubles. The duo earned its seven wins during the fall season, with a pair during the UNCG Fall Invitational, three at the Davidson Fall Invitational and two more during the Spartan Fall Invitational.
- Elmers, Gabelic and Moskowitz have each earned a singles win and are tied for the team lead with a 1-1 mark.
- The Spartans played in five different tournaments this past fall including the UNCG Fall Invitational, Davidson Fall Invitational, ITA Regional Championships, Spartan Fall Invitational and Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
- Last season's men's tennis squad finished 6-16 overall with an 0-7 mark in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
- The season ended with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded ETSU in the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- Tymofiy Khrystyuk paced the team in singles with a 9-10 record. Gabelic was right behind him with a 9-12 record for the season.
- Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson led the way for the Spartans in doubles play with a 5-6 record and 2-2 mark in the SoCon.
- The Spartans have five returning juniors on their roster this season as well as three freshmen who are in their first year at UNCG.
- Head Coach Jeff Trivette is in his 25th season with UNCG Tennis.
SCOUTING THE FIRE ANTS
- USC Sumter is off to a 1-2 start overall after defeating Belmont Abbey, 7-0, on Jan. 24 in Belmont, North Carolina, before falling to Lees-McRae College, 5-1, and The Citadel, 4-2, on Feb. 1 in Sumter, South Carolina.
- Both the men's and women's tennis programs at USC Sumter are led by Head Coach Andrew Bartelmo, who is in his fifth season at the helm of the programs.
- The men's tennis team has been nationally ranked in the last four seasons, including time in the top 10.
- The Fire Ants have earned a bid to the NJCAA National Championships seven years running.
- Bartelmo has had several individuals nationally ranked while competing at USC Sumter and an ITA Southeast Regional Champion.

SCOUTING THE ROYALS
- Queens is 0-4 to start the spring slate with losses at Charlotte, 7-0, at Wofford, 5-2, at No. 18 South Carolina, 7-0, and most recently hosting Presbyterian, 5-2, on Jan. 31.
- Laurenz Blickwede and Win Steveker each own a 2-2 singles record, marking the Royals' only wins so far to open the season.
- The Royals are still searching for their first victory in doubles play.
- Queens finished the 2023-24 campaign with an 11-11 overall record as well as a 3-6 record when competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
- The Royals are under the guidance of Head Women's Tennis Coach and Interim Head Men's Tennis Coach Alex Leatu, who is in her first season leading the men's tennis program.

UNCG is 1-0 all-time against Queens after edging out a 4-3 victory over the Royals last season on Feb. 24, 2024, at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center in Greensboro.
