Men’s Tennis Begins Season Hosting UNCG Fall Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team opens its season hosting the UNCG Fall Invitational from Friday to Sunday at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

UNCG, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, James Madison, N.C. Central, N.C. Wesleyan and Richmond.

RETURNERS
The Spartans welcome back five from last year's roster, including juniors Andrew Black, John Gabelic, Tymofiy Khrystyuk, Devon Moskowitz and redshirt junior Luke Thomson.

NEWCOMERS
UNCG welcomes three new faces to the roster this season, including William Elmers, Eric Lindemann and Alan Trbonja.

PREVIOUSLY AT THE UNCG FALL INVITATIONAL
For the fourth consecutive year, the Spartans are opening the season by hosting the UNCG Fall Invitational. UNCG picked up a total of 10 wins to start the season last year, including seven doubles wins and three victories in singles.
 
Thomson earned a win in doubles while Gabelic and Moskowitz each picked up one win in singles play.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
CAMPBELL – The Fighting Camels finished the 2023-24 campaign, their first as a member of the Coastal Athletic Association, with a 13-8 overall record. UNCG upended Campbell, 6-1, on the road in Buies Creek, North Carolina, on March 21.

COASTAL CAROLINA – The Chanticleers finished last season with a 9-14 record overall as well as a 2-6 mark in Sun Belt Conference action. Coastal Carolina took down UNCG, 7-0, back on Feb. 16 at the Stevens Tennis Complex in Conway, South Carolina.

DAVIDSON – The Wildcats concluded the 2023-24 season with an 8-13 mark overall and a 2-3 record competing in the Atlantic 10. When UNCG and Davidson met head-to-head last season, the Wildcats prevailed by a 4-3 margin in Greensboro.

JAMES MADISON – The Dukes wrapped up last season at 7-14 overall with an 0-8 record in the Sun Belt Conference. Their season ended facing Coastal Carolina, 4-2, in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships. When James Madison and UNCG faced off last season, the Dukes came out on top, 4-3, in Greensboro.

N.C. CENTRAL – The Eagles went 9-15 last season with a 3-2 record in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. When the Spartans and Eagles went head-to-head last season, UNCG came out on top, 4-3, at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro.

N.C. WESLEYAN – The Battling Bishops owned a 17-9 record overall during the 2023-24 season, including an undefeated 6-0 mark when competing in the USA South Athletic Conference. Wesleyan won its conference tournament and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling, 5-2, to Swarthmore.

RICHMOND – The Spiders went 14-8 overall with a 6-1 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference last season. Richmond is welcoming back six veterans from its 2023-24 roster, including Dylan Atkinson, Cole Brashear, Grant Cohen, Paxton Pritchard, Mark Taranov and Davis Wiley.
