Men’s Tennis Falls to Samford in SoCon Quarterfinals

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The No. 6-seed UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell 4-1 to the No. 3-seed Samford Bulldogs in the quarterfinal round of The Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships on Thursday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The No. 6-seed UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell 4-1 to the No. 3-seed Samford Bulldogs in the quarterfinal round of The Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships on Thursday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead after securing back-to-back doubles matches to win the doubles point. J.B. Pickard and Darcy Nicholls got it started by teaming up to defeat UNCG's Tymofiy Khrystyuk and John Gabelic, 6-1. Santiago Arredondo and Sandeep Mohandoss then gave Samford the 1-0 lead with a 6-1 win over Luke Thomson and William Elmers.

Samford claimed a 2-0 lead when Nicholls won a singles match over Gabelic, 6-2, 6-2. Khrystyuk then got the Spartans on the board, 2-1, with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Mohandoss. However, the Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-1 with Pickard defeating Black, 6-0, 7-6 (2). The match ended with Samford prevailing by a final score of 4-1 after Hayden Menon knocked off Thomson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

THE 2024-25 SEASON
Falling out of the SoCon Tournament in the quarterfinal round, UNCG ends the 2024-25 season with an overall record of 9-14 and went 2-5 in conference play for sixth place in the standings.

Khrystyuk earned his second career postseason honor from the SoCon on Wednesday by being named to the All-SoCon Second Team.
