Men’s Tennis Concludes Regular Season Hosting Chattanooga

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will conclude the regular season by hosting a conference match against the Chattanooga Mocs on Saturday at noon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

  • UNCG is 9-12 overall and 2-4 in the SoCon.
  • The Spartans are coming off a 4-2 victory over UNC Asheville at home on Tuesday afternoon.
  • UNCG competed in its last match in The Southern Conference (SoCon) last Sunday, which went the way of Mercer, 7-0, in Macon, Georgia.
  • All nine of the Spartans' wins this season have come at home. UNCG is 9-3 at home and 0-9 on the road.
  • William Elmers and John Gabelic are leading the Spartans in doubles with a team-best 6-4 record.
  • Elmers and Luke Thomson have been the next-best doubles pair on the team at 4-4.
  • Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz are 9-12 so far while competing in doubles.
  • Tymofiy Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson own a 3-7 mark together in doubles this season.
  • As individuals in doubles, Gabelic and Elmers are the best on the team with 10-8 records for both.
  • Moskowitz leads the Spartans with a 13-7 record in singles.
  • Black owns the second-best singles record so far at 10-11.
  • Gabelic is third on the team with an 9-12 mark in singles.
  • Khrystyuk is fourth on the squad with eight wins and an 8-13 record.
  • Black and Moskowitz were ranked No. 79 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Doubles Rankings on Dec. 5, 2024.
  • Black and Moskowitz teamed up to post a 7-0 record and six points for their first national ranking in either singles or doubles. The duo earned its seven wins during the fall season, with a pair during the UNCG Fall Invitational, three at the Davidson Fall Invitational and two more during the Spartan Fall Invitational.
  • The Spartans played in five different tournaments this past fall including the UNCG Fall Invitational, Davidson Fall Invitational, ITA Regional Championships, Spartan Fall Invitational and Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
  • Last season's men's tennis squad finished 6-16 overall with an 0-7 mark in the SoCon.
  • The season ended with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded ETSU in the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
  • Khrystyuk paced the team in singles with a 9-10 record. Gabelic was right behind him with a 9-12 record for the season.
  • Khrystyuk and Thomson led the way for the Spartans in doubles play with a 5-6 record and 2-2 mark in the SoCon.
  • The Spartans have five returning juniors on their roster this season as well as three freshmen (Elmers, Eric Lindemann and Alan Trbonja) who are in their first year at UNCG.
  • Head Coach Jeff Trivette is in his 25th season with UNCG Tennis.

SCOUTING THE MOCS

  • Chattanooga owns an overall record of 12-10 with a 3-3 mark inside SoCon play.
  • The Mocs are currently fourth in league standings behind Mercer (6-0), Samford (5-1) and ETSU (5-1).
  • Chattanooga snapped a three-match skid when the Mocs earned a pair of 5-2 wins over Furman on Friday and Wofford on Saturday.
  • The Mocs are led in doubles by Gabriel Castillo and Jakub Jupa as well as Jaxon Lamb and Ryan Mudre, who have each teamed up for 12 wins with 12-6 and 12-7 records as a pairing, respectively.
  • Mudre leads Chattanooga with an 18-15 record in singles.
  • Cortland Grove is second on the team with 17 wins backed by a 17-13 record in singles.
  • Head Coach Chuck Merzbacher is in his eighth season at the helm of Chattanooga's men's tennis program.

THE SERIES HISTORY
The Spartans and Mocs have faced each other 25 times dating back to the 1988-89 season. Chattanooga has the upperhand at 14-11 with wins in six straight meetings.
