Softball Gets Past Tennessee Tech, 9-6
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team extended its win streak to nine with a 9-6 victory over Tennessee Tech on Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
This extended the Spartans' win streak to nine and they are now 10-2 overall. This matches UNCG's nine-game win streak from the 2023 season when the Spartans were victorious between March 17 to March 29.
- Two Spartans had multi-hit games, including Meredith Harwood who went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI, three runs scored, one walk and two home runs.
- Jorde Chartrand also went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
- Harwood crushed her fifth and sixth homers of the season and 11th and 12th of her career.
- Samantha Beck led the game with three walks.
- Harwood led off the bottom of the second with her first solo shot to left field giving UNCG a 1-0 lead.
- Tennessee Tech responded with two runs on two hits and one error in the top of the third for a 2-1 advantage.
- The Spartans' four-run third inning gave them the lead back, 5-2, but not before the Golden Eagles batted around the order and had their own four-run frame for a 6-4 advantage.
- UNCG regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth on two hits and one error, 8-6.
- With the bases loaded and one out, Macy Michael singled to second base scoring Beck from third for the first run. Jorde Chartrand then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Grace Loftin. Hadley Gardner's pop up was dropped and Chrissy Rabenold scored for the two-run cushion.
- After a scoreless fifth inning, Harwood took a 1-2 count over the center-field wall for her second solo home run of the day.
- Salem Ward earned her seventh win of the season retiring the final three batters in the top of the seventh. She also had four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work with no earned runs allowed.
