GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team will continue its road slate with Triad foe Wake Forest on Friday, Dec. 20 at 3:00 p.m. at LJVM Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
 

SERIES HISTORY
Wake Forest holds the slight edge over UNCG at 8-7 in the overall meetings. The two team's last met in the 2021-22 season in Winston-Salem when the Demon Deacons took the contest, 56-45. The Spartans took the prior matchup in LJVM Coliseum, 67-65, in the 2019-20 campaign.
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

• UNCG most recently fell, 59-52, in a competitive battle with Georgia on Monday in Athens at Stegeman Coliseum.
• Jaila Lee and Nya Smith paced the Spartans with 11 points apiece.
• Smith and Tasia Johnson led the Spartans from behind the arc with three three-pointers apiece.  
• Yacine N'Diaye recorded a career-best three field goals.
• Khalis Cain led the game with eight boards.
• Jayde Gamble led the Spartans with five dimes.

• UNCG currently sits 7-4 overall on the 2024-25 season.
• The Spartans are undefeated at home with a 5-0 mark in Fleming Gym.
• The Blue & Gold stand atop The Southern Conference (SoCon) in bench points per game (26.5) and scoring defense (54.1).
• The squad's 54.1 scoring defense average puts them at 21^st nationally.
• Gamble is second in the league in steals per game with a 2.27 average.
• UNCG is besting its opponents across several categories: points (718-595), field goals (265-223), three-pointers (73-53), free throws (115-96), rebounds (371-334), assists (127-120), points off turnovers (18.0-11.9) and steals (102-79).
• Gamble paces the team with 143 points, 55 field goals, 40 assists and 25 steals.
• Smith stands out from behind the arc with 17 three-pointers.
• Lee paces the squad at the charity stripe with 31 free throws for a 68.9 free throw percentage.
• Cain leads the Spartans defensively with 72 boards and six blocks.
• The Spartans went 21-12 overall and 8-6 in league play during the 2023-24 season.
• UNCG appeared in the SoCon Championship for the seventh time in program history last season, falling to Chattanooga, 69-60.
• The 2024-25 roster features 10 returners and five newcomers with three transfers and two freshmen.
• Three of last year's starters have returned this season in Cain, Gamble and Nia Howard.
• Head Coach Trina Patterson is in her ninth season at the helm of the Blue & Gold.
• Patterson tallied her third season achieving 20 or more wins last year, leading UNCG to finish second in the regular season.
• The Spartans were picked to finish second in the 2024-25 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll with one first-place vote.
• Cain and Gamble were selected to the SoCon Preseason All-SoCon Team. 

SCOUTING WAKE FOREST

• The Demon Deacons come into Friday's contest with a 6-5 overall record and 0-1 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
• Wake Forest most recently dropped its first ACC contest of the season, 65-59, against Clemson in LJVM Coliseum.
• The Deacs are second in the ACC and 26^th nationally with a 54.4 scoring defense average.
• The team stands out at 42^nd in the country with a 36.0 field goal percentage defense.
• Rylie Theuerkauf leads the team with 112 points.
• Malaya Cowles stands out with 44 field goals and six blocks.
• Raegyn Conley and Theuerkauf pace the squad from downtown with 12 three-pointers apiece.
• Demeara Hinds and Tamia Jones lead the team defensively with 67 boards and 25 steals, respectively.
• Elise Williams is the best passer on the team with 34 assists.
• Wake Forest was picked to finish 17^th in the 2024-25 ACC Women's Basketball Predicted Order of Finish.
• The Deacs will continue their conference slate at Virginia on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 7:00 p.m.
