Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth at ECU Ironwood Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished fourth at the ECU Ironwood Invitational on Tuesday, hosted by East Carolina University (ECU) at Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, North Carolina.

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished fourth at the ECU Ironwood Invitational on Tuesday, hosted by East Carolina University (ECU) at Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, North Carolina.

The Spartans earned the fourth-place finish with a 38-over-par (902) in the 54-hole tournament. Senior Ava Romfo and freshman Lulu Leetham led the Spartans and tied for seventh at five-over-par (221).

TEAM

  • The Spartans jumped from seventh after the first two rounds on Monday to a fourth-place finish on Tuesday by shooting seven-over-par (295) in the final round as a team.
  • UNCG posted rounds of 303-304-295 to finish 38-over-par (902).
  • The Spartans concluded the event seven strokes ahead of Stetson (909) and four strokes shy of NC State (898) for third place.
  • UNCG was fifth on par four holes at 37-over-par with a 4.25 stroke average.
  • Additionally, the Spartans finished third on par threes at 3.20 strokes per hole while being sixth on par fives at a 5.25 clip.
  • UNCG tied for fourth in the tournament as a team with 174 pars and tied for sixth with 21 birdies.
  • Viginia Tech hung on to the top spot on the final day to earn the team title at 11-over-par (875).
  • The host school, ECU, finished second at 17-over-par (881).

INDIVIDUAL

  • Romfo and Leetham tied for the team lead and seventh in the tournament at five-over-par (221). Romfo carded a 75-72-74 while Leetham posted a 72-77-72.
  • Romfo tied for fourth when competing on par-three holes at even-par with a 3.00 stroke average. She also tied for ninth on par fours with a 4.10 stroke average. Additionally, Romfo carded seven birdies to tie for eighth.
  • Leetham tied for fourth at two-under-par on par-five holes with a 4.83 stroke average.
  • Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine finished third on the team and tied for 28th at 13-over-par (229) after shooting 76-77-76.
  • Competing individually, freshman Sophie Lauture tied for 36th at 15-over-par (231) after posting rounds of 77-78-76. She tied for first in the tournament on par threes, shooting one-under-par with a 2.92 stroke average on par-three holes.
  • The other Spartan competing on her own, senior Grace Holcomb, shot an 18-over-par (234) to finish in a tie for 53rd. She carded rounds of 77-78-79.
  • Junior Julia Baeumken tied for 53rd with Holcomb at 18-over-par (234) after shooting 83-78-73.
  • Sophomore Elle Burnette tied for 73rd at 23-over-par (239) with rounds of 80-79-80.
  • NC State's Marie Madsen won the individual title at six-under-par (210) after shooting a 70-71-69.

With the regular season now complete for the Spartans, UNCG will compete in the SoCon Championship from April 14-16 at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, South Carolina.
