Women’s Golf to Compete in The 2025 Southern Conference Championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team is set to compete in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship from April 14-16 at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, South Carolina.
UNCG finished fifth or better in seven of its 10 total events this season. The Spartans won their first tournament since the 2011-12 season after placing first in the Puerto Rico Shootout in Humacao, Puerto Rico, on March 6. UNCG also earned a runner-up finish hosting the UNCG Collegiate, which saw senior Ava Romfo win the individual title.

THE FORMAT
The SoCon Championship is a three-day, three-round tournament with a total of nine teams. There will be one round on each day with the tournament teeing off at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
The league's nine teams will be competing for the SoCon tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. The individual medalist will also earn an automatic regional qualification if she is not on the winning team.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG
- UNCG finished fourth at the ECU Ironwood Invitational, hosted by East Carolina from March 31-April 1 in Greenville, North Carolina.
- The Spartans jumped from seventh after the first two rounds to a fourth-place finish by shooting seven-over-par (295) in the final round as a team.
- UNCG posted rounds of 303-304-295 to finish 38-over-par (902).
- The Spartans concluded the event seven strokes ahead of Stetson (909) and four strokes shy of NC State (898) for third place.
- UNCG was fifth on par four holes at 37-over-par with a 4.25 stroke average.
- Additionally, the Spartans finished third on par threes at 3.20 strokes per hole while being sixth on par fives at a 5.25 clip.
- UNCG tied for fourth in the tournament as a team with 174 pars and tied for sixth with 21 birdies.
- Viginia Tech hung on to the top spot on the final day to earn the team title at 11-over-par (875).
- The host school, ECU, finished second at 17-over-par (881).
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- The Spartans own a national rank of 112th with a 297.7 scoring average.
- UNCG took home first in the Puerto Rico Shootout, hosted by Ball State from March 4-5 at the Flamboyan Course at Palmas del Mar Golf Club in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
- It marked the Spartans first tournament win since the Palmetto Intercollegiate from Oct. 23-24, 2011, at Oak Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
- UNCG broke the single-round tournament record for the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, on Sept. 9 in round two by shooting a 13-under-par (271). The Spartans later finished third in the event.
- The Spartans finished fourth or better in four of their first five tournaments back in the fall.
- The Spartans finished fourth in the Clemson Invitational on Aug. 26 at Walker Course in Clemson, South Carolina, to begin the fall.
- UNCG also tied for third in the Pirate Collegiate Classic from Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Greenville, North Carolina.
- Romfo is first on the team and eighth in the SoCon with a 74.08 stroke average.
- Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine is second on the squad and ninth in the SoCon, averaging 74.26 strokes per round.
- Freshman Lulu Leetham is third for UNCG and tied for 17th in the league at a 75.68 stroke average. Leetham led the Spartans to their tournament win at the Puerto Rico Shootout by tying for second at four-under-par (140) in the two-round shortened event.
- Sophomore Elle Burnette stands at fifth for UNCG, averaging 76.04 strokes per round.
- Freshman Sophie Lauture is sixth for the Spartans and 25th in the SoCon, averaging 76.14 strokes per round.
- Junior Julia Baeumken is 28th in the conference with a 76.71 average.
- The Spartans have three newcomers this season, including freshmen Leetham and Lauture as well as a sophomore transfer from Marshall in McIlvaine.
AT THE 2024 SOCON CHAMPIONSHIP
- UNCG saw two finish in the top 15 of last year's SoCon Championship at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
- Romfo tied for 10th overall, while Grace Holcomb finished in a tie for 13th place.
- It was the second straight year that Romfo finished in the top 10 at the SoCon Championship after tying for eighth in 2023.
- The Spartans tied for sixth overall with Western Carolina at 51-over-par (915).
- UNCG had its best round on the final day, carding a 14-over-par (302).
- ETSU claimed the team title with a 15-over-par (879) score and Samford moved up one spot to take home second place with a 28-over-par (892) performance.
- The Spartans were four strokes shy of tying for fourth place with Mercer at 47-over-par (911).
