Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth at SoCon Championship, Best Finish Since 2013
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished in fourth place on Wednesday at The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, South Carolina.
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished in fourth place on Wednesday at The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, South Carolina.
The Spartans' fourth-place finish was the best in a conference tournament since the 2013 SoCon Championship, when UNCG finished third with a final score of 903.
TEAM
- The Spartans placed fourth out of the nine teams from the conference at 57-over-par (921) after posting 303-314-304 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
- UNCG finished seven strokes ahead of ETSU (928) and three shy of Mercer (918).
- Furman won the title at 34-over-par (898) after rounds of 295-305-298.
- The Spartans were fourth in the tournament when competing on par fives, shooting one-over-par as a team with a 5.01 stroke average.
- UNCG finished third in the tournament on par fours at 53-over-par with a 4.44 stroke average.
- UNCG ended the tournament tied for second with one eagle, thanks to senior Ava Romfo scoring one on the third hole on Wednesday.
- They also were fourth with 143 pars and fifth with 26 birdies.
INDIVIDUAL
- Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine led the Spartans and tied for seventh at nine-over-par (225) after carding rounds of 74-77-74.
- Junior Julia Baeumken and freshman Lulu Leetham were second on the Spartans and tied for 15th at 16-over-par (232). Baeumken posted 78-79-75 while Leetham put up 73-78-81.
- McIlvaine finished third when competing on par fives at five-under-par with a 4.67 stroke average. She also tied for fourth with 33 pars.
- Romfo tied for 26th at 27-over-par (240) with 78-83-79. She carded one of the seven eagles from the tournament on Wednesday while competing on hole three.
- Freshman Sophie Lauture played in her second round on Wednesday after subbing in for sophomore Elle Burnette prior to the second round on Tuesday. Lauture shot a four-over-par (76) in the third round to finish 12-over-par (156).
- Burnette shot a 14-over-par (86) in the first round on Monday.
- Furman's Audrey Ryu won the individual title at even-par (216).
