Poplin Voted to SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team
SoCon Announces Preseason Coaches' Poll and Preseason All-Conference Team
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Redshirt senior midfielder Rachel Poplin of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team was voted to The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason All-Conference Team, as voted on by the league's 10 coaches and announced by the SoCon on Monday.
Poplin concluded the 2024 regular season by being selected to the All-Conference Second Team. She earned her first career SoCon accolade in 2023 when she was voted to the All-Freshman Team.
The Winston-Salem, North Carolina, native has started and played in all 19 games the past two seasons for the Blue & Gold with a career total of 3,238 minutes. She notched two goals for four points during the 2024 campaign. Poplin scored her first-collegiate goal in a 5-1 victory over VMI to start league play last season. Her second was the game-tying goal against Samford in the SoCon Quartfinal game.
The Spartans were voted to finish sixth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 45 points. Western Carolina was voted to finish first, earning nine first-place votes, while Samford followed in second, with one first-place vote.
UNCG concluded the 2024 season 5-9-5 overall and 3-3-3 in league play. UNCG defeated The Citadel, 3-0, in the first round of the 2024 SoCon Tournament but fell to second-seeded Samford, 2-1, in the SoCon Quarterfinal round to conclude the season.
The Spartans are set to begin the 2025 regular season by hosting Davidson at the UNCG Soccer Stadium on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. All regular season home games are free admission.
