Women’s Soccer & Wofford Play to 0-0 Draw
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Wofford on Sunday afternoon at Snyder Field.
UNCG had 10 corner kicks in the game. This was the most since last season when the Spartans had 10 in a 5-1 victory over VMI on Sept. 19 in Lexington, Virginia.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans held the majority of the possession in the first half and outshot the Terriers 6-1. The first shot of the game came from Bryanna Parkes at 19:26. UNCG totaled six in the half compared to Wofford's one corner kick giving the Spartans control heading into a scoreless halftime.
UNCG once again held the advantage in the second half, as the Spartans outshot the Terriers, 9-2. For just about the entire 45 minutes, Wofford held 10 players back in UNCG's attacking third making it challenging to capitalize on any opportunity. One of UNCG's chances came from Taylor Mentzer who headed the ball into the post after a low cross from Mia Hasan at 76:41. Azumi Oka, with just about three minutes left, headed the ball down off a corner kick, but the Terriers' goalkeeper made the save to her right. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the final minutes as both teams earned a point in SoCon play with a 0-0 draw.
